What happens when I lock my AWD on? Is it now like a 4WD?

Hi,
I just bought a used 2013 Rogue AWD, if I turn on the AWD lock button it only stays lit until I hit a certain speed....then the light goes off....does this mean the awd is off
and it is back in 2wd or does the light just turn off??? is there any way to keep in AWD??
thanks

Its working as designed. It only stays on when the road conditions warrant it being on after being turned on. My 2015 Rogue does the same thing. If you have the owners manual its explained in there.

The Rogue's AWD system is designed to be a part time system. You're in AWD when you first start moving and then the system shifts to FWD and stays there until a slip is detected and then AWD kicks back in. The AWD lock is for when you're covering rough or slippery terrain at a slow speed. If you exceed the max speed (I forget what it is exactly but something like 15mph) it switches back to the AWD Auto mode. The AWD Lock/Auto button is explained on page 5-23 of the owner's manual: https://owners.nissanusa.com/content/te ... manual.pdf

I'm guessing your Rogue didn't come with it's owner's manual.

Section 5-24 - Starting and driving (pg. 256):
LOCK mode will change to AUTO mode
automatically when the vehicle has been driven
at a high speed. The AWD LOCK indicator light
turns off.

What it doesn't say, and I can't remember for certain is, does it turn off at 15 or 25 mph.
