Question about 2007 sentra FSM

Im having trouble finding anything on the starter? Is there any information in the FSM about checking the starter? I think mine might be going bad .

Well I turned over the key three or four times and it just tries to start but it sputters. My battery is 2 years old... A few months from 3 years. I'm going to see if my water levels are Ok in my battery then go from there. I tested the voltage on the battery when it was off And on. Off = 12.63 and ON = 14.73.

Water levels are fine. I think my battery is hitting the crapper and i need to get a new one or like i said my starter is acting up.

Those numbers look fine to me. If it's cranking fine but sputtering then it sounds more like either fuel or air problem and not battery nor starter. Not sure on the quality of these new Sentra starters yet but I don't think it would go after 2 or 3 years????

Well I've use the same fuel forever except on occasion ( long trips ). So I doubt it could be the fuel.

When I say fuel I don't mean the "actual gas", I mean it's fuel related, fuel pump, fuel filter, A/F meter, gas line etc etc...

Starter/anything significant that could fail in the starting process ought to still be under warranty for an 07, right?

Fuel or spark. If it's turning then it's not the battery or the starter. It's the actual ignition process, which is plugs (or coils) or fuel (pump, pressure reg, injectors come to mind).

Turn the key to the last stage before the engine fires. Can you hear a faint whine from the back seat? You'll probably have to listen fairly closely, but the fuel pump should make some noise while pressurizing. If it is, then you're fuel is fine and it's spark-related. After a few attempts at starting, you're probably flooding your cylinders a bit, making it even harder to start for awhile.

Yes i have the extended warrenty too so it would be covered. I would like to try and fix it myself if i can so i can learn how to do it but if i cant then ill take it in.

I remember you had to take your whole air intake system out to wire up the fog lights, I would double-check everything there first and make sure that all the pieces are put together properly, no loose hoses, MAF is on properly etc etc...

I heared the little faint noise from the fuel pump so its not that. SHould i go ahead and get new spark plugs?? my car only has 48k miles on it.

@ faja: when i put it back together i double checked and all to make sure i did it right.

Personally I would just take it back to the dealer if you're sure everything is connected back properly. I know you want to see if you can fix it yourself and that's great on you but you paid for that extra warranty so use it while you can. If they find a problem, just ask them what it was and what they did to fix it. Just my .02 cents

Im going to go ahead and change my spark plugs. Ive been wanting to anyways. If the probelm keeps happening then ill definetly take it in.

When you do, can you do a write-up with pics for the rest of the forum please? All I know is that you have to take off a bunch of other parts to even get to the plugs.

Just a question. Will i have to change my intake manifold gasket? The car is farely new so i was just wondering if i had to.

So i was talking to a family friend who is a mechanic and he said that.. if the spark plugs are that hard to get to then they are prolly life time spark plugs and i shouldnt have to change them. I looked in the owners manual and there it said that the spark plugs are platium tipped and should not have to changed them as much as regular ones. He then asked if i have changed the fuel filter or air filter at all because that could be giving it a rough start. I talked to my dad and he said he hasnt changed yet.... so im going to take the car into nissan and have them do the 45,000 mile maintance check...

Yes I believe those plugs should be good for at least 100,000 kms especially on a new car.
