Post

Dear All,
I have a Nissan Dayz Highway Star and i lost my fob, unfortunately there was no extra fob i got when i imported the car. The car has below latest Nissan Intelligent Key System ===> http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECHNOL ... W/iks.html

The problem is that i lost the fob in my home even i spent 1 week to search everywhere but no luck :(.
Now if there is any technical way i can search the fob . For example
1. If i can extend the signal generated from car by some means of wires wrapping around the car and one person continuously pressing the button on car handle and another end of wire i can move continuously in the home.

2. Any metal or frequency detector would help to search for fob ?

Suppose if above 2 methods dont work then i already checked the local lock smiths. They are saying that we will charge you 650$ and approx 5 things in the car ( Engine control unit/Computer, Fuse Box , steering lock assembly and one more thing i forgot) they will replace and then car will be start.
My point is that can i just buy in 76$ a Engine Control Unit and fob from the ebay and if i only change the Engine Control Unit , will it work or not ? ===>

Note for moderators:- kindly dont delete my post as i could not find the Nissan Dayz option and my query is generic as this technology now Nissan using for all new cars.

Hello and welcome to the board.
Actually, I will move your thread to the general forum in hopes that you get wider coverage for your issue.

On the key replacement, in the States you can either buy the key from a dealer and have them program it. This is an expensive option.
I have had success buying a smart fob from ebay and having the dealership program it for their approx $100 charge.
Also, I have gone to a locksmith and had him cut and program a regular, transponder chip for me.

I don't see why a locksmith can't just program a new key for you. None of my options included module or computer replacement.

*Also, please state your location or even better, add it to your profile so that we can offer geography-relevant advice, if applicable.

Depending on the key, you may be able to use aftermarket FOBs. I just helped a co-worker get a FOB online for $25 USD for his Toyota Tacoma. We found a link procedure online and were able to get the truck to link to the FOB on our own in a few minutes. We got the FOB from remotesremotes dot com. The FSM (Factory Service Manual) has the link procedure in it. If you can tell us the US equivelant of your vehicle's year make and model, we can try to get the matching FSM with linking instructions for you. We figured the worst case was it wouldn't work and we'd be out $25, but it did work!
