So I understand loosely the concept of a superconductor, but this is a superconductor "locked" in place three dimensionally, while still floating above its parent magnet? Every superconductor I've ever seen has had a superconductor floating above a magnet, but basically doing whatever it well pleases. Razi sent me this video and I honestly don't know what is going on. Anyone else seen anything like this?

I don't even know what Quantum Levitation means.
I just want a hoverboard.

Ok, so browsing some more, there's a special construction to this superconductor:

So the forums don't like my embed code right now. Just click the link.

Ha. I experimented at making a cat food bowl that is levitated by magnets to keep ants out. It failed miserably. Turns out all I need is a super conductor and liquid nitrogen!

That would have been epic. Care to share your design? I'm sure a few of us tommyknockers could try to figure out some workable alternatives....

Pretty basic actually. Two bowls of the same kind. The walls are at an angle. Two large magnets that oppose each other placed on the bottom of one bowl and in the other. Then a bunch of smaller magnets lined around the inside of one bowl and outside of the other at a level that matches each other. Well, that's how it started. Had trouble keeping from tilting. Could have been that I had trouble placing them exactly and didn't really try to space them at perfect intervals. So the next attempt, I used two rows of magnets on the bottom bowl. Hoping to keep the magnets on the upper bowl aligned between the 2 rows. It sort of worked, but the upper bowl would pull into the side of the bottom bowl. I have a feeling I need a couple of ring shaped magnets. But I'm not going to spend the money on that. I got the magnets I used dirt cheap on Amazon. Odd shaped magnets tend to be pricey. I sort of lost interest with the magnets I have when I realized how much hot glue I need to pry off the magnets to try again. haha.

I have an easier solution: get rid of the cat. Problem solved!
