Hello, everyone! I have a question that i gad been told that 240 sx need to use premiun gas that is recomand from manufactory! is that true? Well, what about if I use regular gas? Is it will cause any problems(mechanical, performance, power)? Thx! Please help me out!

Personally, I'd use the middle grade. However, my cheapass best friend ONLY uses regular in his altima (same motor) and hasn't ever noticed any issues with it.

Thanks for replying, but according to my research, Altima could use regular but 240sx use premiun.

I run whatever my pocketbook dictates, be it 87, 89, or 91. My 240 doesn't seem to care what it's running on, as long as it has fuel.

As for the factory reccomendations, of course they're going to want you to run premium - it reduces the chances of you bringing the car in for warranty work for knocks and pings, if they happen.

Put the crack pipe down, 4 cylinder KA engines do NOT require premium fuel.

Use it if you're rich.

It doesn't matter if its an altima or a KA, as long as your talking about a DOHC 240, then they share the same compression ratio and are similar enough not to be a difference. However, this is why I said I'd use 89 myself, the compression is a touch high imo to use 87, but like I said...he's a cheapass.

Well, I have never put anything in mine but premium since I bought it. I have found that with almost every car I have owned that I got better mileage out of premium. So by the time that I bought my 240 that was all that I would put in any car. My mother has owned nothing but Chevy fullsize conversion vans in the past 15 years and she runs premium in them because if she puts the cheap stuff in the gas mileage drops like a lead balloon (not like the mileage doesnt already suck). And I used to own an 87 Trans Am that was about the same, if I used regular my mileage went south. So, I will just stop rambling and say that I hardly think that these cars require premium since they have a relatively low compression ratio and they have aluminum heads which bleed off combustion chamber temps a lot faster than Iron heads. However, I wouldnt put anything but premium in any car that I own and plan to keep a while. Just my 2 cents worth.

just a note, never use mid grade. my friends dad works for bp, does somthing with the chemicals in it. he said that the mid grade is just a marketing ploy and is almost the same. it doesnt have enough of a chemical diference that regular to burn any different.

Well, Nissan recommends premium fuel for my 1991 240SX. I have always run premium, except for one time when I was really broke. The knock sensor retarded timing so much on that tank of gas, that I felt like I lost about 20 hp. Never did that again.

Other 240's may be different, but mine only likes premium.

The KA likes premium fuel because of it's high degree of stock ignition timing.

nice S3. i usually run 89 but ive never felt any difference in power gains or loss by running regular then mid grade. its all how you maintain your engine and fuel systems.

My 1993 manual says you need to run at least 87 AKI, and premium for best performance. Even in the gas cap area, it says "Premium fuel recommended for best performance" I did run 87 once and the car did not run as good as the 93. It wasn't a dramatic difference, but my KA does run better with the premium.

I run 93 every time now, and i'll really need it in a couple days when the SR goes in there

93 is good for an engine like an sr but a ka is subceptable to more wear and tear on combustion chambers and such on a higher octane fuel than the sr,rb's or even ca's.

Am I to understand this as meaning that higher octane gas somehow causes more wear and tear on combustion chambers? If this is what you mean, please explain a little more.

Higher octane gas is harder to ignite, burns slower, and at a lower temperature than lower octane gas. That's why we use it in high compression/turbo engines, because it resists detonation.

the grade of gas that goes in my 240 depends whats in my bank account, i definetly notice a difference btween 89-91 octane. i daily drive at least 110 miles a day just commuting to work and back, but with 89 the ka sucks it down like a hog. with 91 my car feels much smoother and i can get more miles out of it. btw i have 178k on my sohc ka

It makes about $2 difference per tank guys.

which is more for some than others, but still.

Well, I think I'm suppose to be getting better gas mileage off it anyway, but I wouldn't know because my speedo/odo don't work yet.

My friends who drive other cars notice major mileage improvement when filling in 91 instead of 87, which balances out the price difference.

Also, I feel that my car revs better w/ the 91 than 87, which kind of completely ruins the mileage aspect, but someone's gotta rev up the lawnmower hondas out there.

Heh, premium seems to work a bit better for my car, it started with 13mpg, and now its almost to 18mpg (yeah i know ****ty mileage) and revving is smoother and i dunno about torque...
