For all those with this engine, I've heard its a noisy little engine. Exactly how noisy are we talking here? I turned off the music today before I got out of the car and with no distractions around noticed a LOT of engine noise. I open the hood up and theres a lot of ticking coming from the car, as well as the engine was vibrating.. so much so that at 1800rpms, the whole car would shake, after that it imediately smoothes out. Right around the 1800mark though the drivers side door was even shaking since I had it open! Anyone else ever noticed this? Am I just being overly picky of this thing? Either way Im calling the dealership tomorrow after classes to get this checked!.. along with an oil change and the steering wheel scuffing sound fix.. and hopefully my 70mph vibration -.-

I've had none of those problems other than my door panels occasionally rattling.

I've heard the ticking from the engine bay and the doors rattle here and there on the highway nothing that music can't drown out but as for the tick I like to call it "The classic Nissan tick" because my 240 does it as well too lazy to take out the timing chain guides up top on the 240 but every altima that I've ever heard running has that tick no need to be worried there but as for the door shaking? eh sounds like some rough idling bud never have I had that happen to me

ya know, putting the two together. I really feel like my highway shaking may actually be from the roughness of the engine at ~1800rpms. Ill take a closer look on the ride home tonight, but as far as I remember thats the RPM the engine is at when its the car shakes on the interstate.. though I feel it in the steering wheel, so I'm not positive this is the cause of that as well.. I did however just finish up detailing her today lol.

so the ticking is sort of like the #4 chevy tick.. the #4 cylinder of every LT1 has the same tick :P. Come to think of it even the gen 3 engine in my silverado had a bit of a tick coming from that area as well... *shrug* I'm just too critical of cars I suppose.. but the shake definately needs to be dealt with.

Just turned 9500 miles and mine is quiet and smooth. I never even hear or feel the engine unless I get on the gas, where my Fujita intake becomes loud. at idle it sounds like I turned the car off. If it's under warranty, take it in!

definately gonna be done.. taking it in first thing in the morning, as it was my only free time. Theyll be adressing this issue, as well as a vibration at 70mph (which I think is related to the other issue, as maintaining speed and downshifting the vibes go away!) The steering column scrubbing sound, which is also causing an annoying squeal everytime I turn left!... how much longer before I get upset at them.. who knows. Once took it in for a pecking sound coming from the front end at slow speeds on the right side, they played it off on a rock.. heard it again TODAY.. checked all 4 tires, no rocks.. lets see them play it off this time! Ill report back after I hear something

**UPDATE**

and for this I need some assistance as to what course to take!

The vehicle was left with the dealership this morning. Steering column issue fixed no problem thanks to the TSB (thanks NICO!).

Engine vibration at 1800-2000rpms... verified by asst service manager, service manager, and a technician with me on the lot. Nissan claims this is perfectly NORMAL and that this is also where my highway vibe at around 70mph is coming from!

Basically ALL 2.5s Coupes do this, and nissan says it is normal and no big deal. I payed ~22000 after taxes for this car, and have to deal with a vibration on the highway... I think not!

Verified this is on all 2.5S coupes.. the dealer had 2 other 2.5S coupes on the lot, one exact same trim level as mine with 6 miles on it.. same issue.

What's the next step guys?

The service manager is going to contact an engineer he knows that works for nissan to see if he can come up with a fix for this.. as of now, there is nothing.

Low 20,000 car.. and a highway vibration at a certain engine rpm is normal... wanderful =/. For the first time ever I am dissapointed with Nissan as well as my coupe (that I still love the looks of and really would rather have this fixed than get rid of it!)

Whoa, I thought this only happened to me..or it was the road! I've driven to Vegas twice in the past two months and I averaged 80-95mph and the car felt like it was veering to one side. It also vibrated quite a bit..but I figured it was because I didn't have many miles on my car and I was still 'breaking it in'. I'm almost to 5,000 miles now. I'm going to test this out this weekend and if there's anything wrong i'm takin' it to the dealer.

I hope you have better luck than I had. If so make sure your dealer keeps up with what they do and forward it to my dealer lol.

Aside from that I skimmed over TN state lemon laws a bit. For me to lemon law this, it has to be a substantial impair of the vehicles ability, or substantially reduce the potential resale value of the vehicle. I may be able to get away with the latter, due to the fact that I think this will only get worse as the engine mounts wear away, and the cylinders get warn in. Second problem is that I have to have 4 attempts to rectify the problem. I've got 2 attempts, but after the second I am aware nissan considers this a non-issue. How do i handle it from there? =/

Try a different dealer, some of us aren't experiencing the issue that you are.

Are you running the A/C? I occasionally get get some vibration that goes away by shutting off the A/C.

Hey I'm new to the website but i wanted to say the pecking or ticking sound could be simply coming from a cotter (spelling) pin was loose and making noise. Thats what I found on my car. Annoying, but fixable! Hope I helped

No issues here. How are your rpms so low at 70mph?

I have a 6mt and my rpms are 2.2 at 65mph.

You should if your driving on the highway. I wouldnt recommend this for city driving because its not good for the transmission accelerating in a higher gear then you should be in, but if your just cruising down the highway keep it close to 2k RPM and youll get good mileage out of it

I agree that you should always know rpms when driving. lets you know if something might be slipping. But I was curious about how driving in the low rpm range around town is bad for the transmission???

From what ive been told is that you put extra strain on it, like if your in 5th gear goin 35mph and floor it, which isnt the best thing for your transmission.I would think it would still take a lot to damage it but you never know.
