Another blow to the motor that Nissan just can't quite seem to get right. Maybe the '07 revisions will fix the oil consumption issue too.

"GARDENA, CA (June 2, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc., today directed its dealers to stop selling certain 2006 model year, four-cylinder Altimas and Nissan Sentra SE-Rs because of reports of excessive oil consumption while it continues to investigate potential causes.

The condition, if not detected or addressed properly, could lead to the potential for engine damage, or failure which could result in a fire in extreme cases. The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration has been advised of Nissan’s action.

Nissan estimates that about 100,000 Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs built between January and May 2006 may be subject to excessive oil consumption. There have been about 215 reports of excessive oil consumption, mostly from rental-car fleets, and 17 reports of engine fires, resulting in one minor injury."

Maybe they should go back to a motor that works like the SR or KA.

The MR is one of Nissan's newer 4 cylinder motors. There's 1.8 liter version in the Versa, and a 2 liter version in the soon-to-be-released Sentra.

MR20, I don't think they have a 2.5 in that line at this point.

The QR is being revised next year and will be a lot more solid.

However, I think the MR series will eventually eclipse it altogether.

Oh, and the B16 is the most hideous car since the Aztec.

Yeah, I've never seen anything about an MR25 engine, but I do believe the MR20 has replaced the QR20 in some applications already.

A 2.5L version of the MR engine with direct injection would be ineresting.

And, yeah, unfortunately the QR25DE has been a a mess as far as reliability goes. It would keep me from buying a newer Spec V.
