Hey guys,

My Infiniti dealer just told me I need a new TRANSMISSION CONTROL VALVE BODY and he will install it for $3,700 !!!
My car has 180,000 miles on it and I think it would be better to just get a WHOLE used transmission.
I am purchasing a used 7 speed transmission and want to make sure I buy and ship one that will work.
I was curious if anyone knew why Infiniti has so many different models of TRANSMISSION CONTROL VALVE BODIESS?
Mine was built in 06/15 and the dealer said I need TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY model 31705-X606C attached to the transmission.
At InfinitiPartsDeal.com they literally have 10 different part #'s just for different TRANSMISSION VALVE BODIES for the VQ37VHR engine. I am aware RWD or AWD are different and some are year specific. I am not including the V8's.
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

If you look carefully, only 3 of them fit 4WD. VQ37VHR. 7AT. Of those, only one fits your production date range. The 31705-X768B fits earlier models, the 31705-74X0B fits later ones.

Is it the valve body or more specifically, the TCM?

You can buy a used or rebuilt valve body for cheap and just trade out your good TCM, put it in the new Valve body and pop it right in the trans. Also, if it's not the transmission, and only the Valve Body, no need to get a whole new unit.

The TCM on most Nissan/Infiniti axial trannies is part of the Valve Body. In that sense they're the same thing, you buy one and you're buying the other.

Quick update;
If you only replace the control valve body, that unit is mounted INSIDE the transmission housing and would therefore have to be drained and opened.
I have no confidence in a "used" uninstalled valve body. I cannot imagine you can get a reputably rebuilt one for less than $1,000 if Infiniti is charging $1,500. I also have no desire to open up my transmission housing.
I found a used transmission from a dismantler with 40K miles on it and got it for $1,500 w/free shipping and warranty.
If the dealer wanted $2,000 to install, plus a "new" $1,700 valve body($3,700) in my old 180,000 mile transmission, what would happen if my worn transmission goes bad next week? I could be looking at another huge repair bill!
If the used tranny checks out and the install goes well, I should be set in the transmission department for the next 150,000 miles for approximately $2,500.
I think I have made the smartest, least expensive decision and will have my old transmission that I will probably have rebuilt.
Let me know your thoughts if you're interested.
