Q50 Loaner Car

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I brought my QX50 in for some minor warranty work (raise/adjust the passenger side headlight position, and to replace a wheel that had a scratch on it when I purchased it). I was given a '14 Q50 AWD as a loaner. Although it looked nice, I was not impressed. First off, the interior smelled bad. Like really bad BO. I was expecting a new car smell like in my QX50.

The nav and touch screen for all controls were nice. But a manual adjustment handle to move the steering wheel? Really?

Driving it, it felt a little bit harsher on the road than my QX, and the steering was noticibly heavier. It didn't seem any faster.

Once I returned the loaner, I told the service advisor about the bad interior smell. He said that they all smell like that and everyone makes a comment. I was happy to get back into my QX. So my curiousity about the Q50 has been answered. It solidified that I made the right choice.

I had the same experience. While the smell you are talking about was not there, I felt the ride to be rough, and the cabin less luxurious than my EX35.

I can't speak to the Q50, but I had a 2010 G37 xS before getting my 2011 EX 35. I had thought the G had a nice interior and decent ride, but the EX is far more lush and the ride more supple. The G was a bit faster, but now that the EX/QX comes with the 3.7, given fairly similar weight, I can't imagine there is much difference. The G definitely handled better on backroads, but tended to be more twitchy on the highway. It is like the difference between a sport sedan and a grand tourer. At first I missed the G, but I have come to prefer the EX as a more practical and comfortable vehicle.
