You often talk about PSI and Vacuum in terms of water column.

Could you please inform me/us as to how I/we would go about making one of these testers?

You buy a series of DWYER Dial MANOMETERS on ebay........they come in 3,10,20,30 and other inches of water column Full scale...........the critical thing is to understand where you want to measure and what the extremes are so you don't destroy the instruments at the same time resolution so you can make an accurate measurement.

After the throttle body [in plenum] the atmospheric presure loss can spike when throttle is closed or at cruise and suck the guts out of an instrument.

Before the MAF the losses are 3-5,6" at WOT max rpm, prior to throttle body they are less than 20" like 12-16" so a 20" is perfect.

Look up Dwyer Manometers on Google lots of tutorials.

Not much time of late started a new project that is going to take all my time for next 90 days........70-90 hour weeks. Just waiting for coffee to boil, now.

I'm confused. You really didn't tell me anything .

I was watching MythBusters last night, and they made a water column tester out of what appeared to be 1/2 in surgical hose, and a minimum of 4in of water on each side of the hose. I just don't know how they hooked it up.

Also, what is one inch of water column equal to? IIRC, it's approximately .179 either negative or positive depending on PSI or Vacuum. Is that correct?

I would say that Dennis' explanation > not anything.

One has to listen then expend thoughtful effort to learn.

PMQ,

You're not the first to be miffed by what you think is a non-answer from Q45Tech.

His posts are like the Bible, at first glance they seem like non-answers, you must read and re-read them several times, come back the next day and read them again to fully digest & interpret them.

Remember your best teacher in High School? The one who made you work the hardest & wouldn't give you the answer? Then, when you were convinced you had the right answer he would challenge you to defend it?

You learned more from him/her than all the others combined, right?

You even remember their name, yet all the others fade.

That's Tech.

Thanks Mr. Otto Phanstiel, Mr. Andriesse, Mrs. Accurso, Mr. Brad Ross, et al.
