Do you think that when you have the opportunity during a power balance test on a G50, could you check and see weather or not the Consult performs the power balance test by shutting off each fuel injector or does it shut off each spark plug to get the power balance figures? Thanks

I would think it just cuts off the injector since a spark is meaningless without any fuel to ignite.

Residuals may be involved in the first few cycles so it seems to ignore those first few revs then analyses the next 10 seconds and averages those rpm numbers.

There is a significant difference in Consult I vs Consult II vs Consult III.The rpm drop resolution gets [or appears to get] better as the versions progress. Fewer negative numbers or weird numbers in II vs I.

Have you tried the home made consult in which you connect your laptop to the earlier G50 models using the ECUTalk cable? I have the ECUTalk cable and I'm using the newest version of OBDScantech. When I was doing the power balance test, I thought that it worked by shutting off the injectors like the original consult I and II , but after I posted a question about the feature that you can shut off multiple cylinders at a time, I was informed by another member of NICO that the software doesn't shut off the injector but rather the spark instead. So, I decided to see for myself and I picked one of the front injectors that I could get to and unplug it. I then got my volt meter and probed the 2 terminals while I had the engine running and had that particular cylinder disabled by the software, I noticed that there was no change, I was still getting current and ground to the connector.

Here is a link to the thread that I was posting too. I asked him if the consult did the same as the software that I was using and he said yes.

I talked with Isaac* and he said it may or may not shut off the injector, But he is leaning more towards the spark plug.

Yeah, I've been talking with him too. We've been emailing back and fourth. What problems are you having with your car in comparison to mine?

Matt

Well I have a stumble at cold and warm idle. The vibration gets worse between 1000-2000 RPMs. And it refuses to rev above 6900 RPMs, not a big problem but I would like to know if its related to this.

The fuel injectors, harness, rails, hoses have been replaced in 2005. The motor mounts and trans mounts replaced in 200X, Redline S1 every oil change.

Is the stumble that you are having steady like a misfire or is it erratic?

How do your o2 sensors look when they are displayed with the gauge display option in obdscantech? Does the needle on the gauge sweep back and fourth when the rpm is held at 2,000? If it is acting up, try unplugging both o2 sensors and see how it runs.
