I have a 1999 Q45t in dire need of struts. It has the Sport/Comfort switch. How difficult are they to replace. How expensive are the struts. Where is a good place to purchase them?

I did a quick search in the Infiniti Online Mech forum and found this helpful thread, which includes info from Joe at everything Infiniti.

You list a '94 in your profile, do you also have a '99, have you posted any pics? We always like seeing pictures, we're guys like that :D.

Is it possible to just install the struts from the 1999 Q45 without the adjustible suspension?

The front struts are the same, the rears are different. The electronic acutators are not replaced, but retained and attached to the new struts.

Tell me if I am correct. I can replace the electronically adjustible front struts on my 1999 Q45T with the regular front struts from a 1999 Q45? I can just bolt them on and not connect the electronic actuators. On the other hand, the rear struts from the regular Q45 will not bolt onto the Q45T. Are the rear struts electronically adjusted also?

Yes, according to Joe at http://www.everythinginfninti.com , the front struts are the same part number. The rear ones are different. The electronic actuators go on top of all 4 struts. Don't know why you would want to not install the actuators.

I suggest calling him.

I called everything infiniti. Using my vin, the parts are not the same. The regular Q45 uses a strut insert. The Q45T uses an actual strut that cost $550 each front, $180 each rear. Very expensive. I am wondering if I could swap the whole assembly including spring and mount. This would convert from the adjustible suspension to non adjustible. Any suggestions?

Did you ask Joe his thoughts on this from a results & feasibility standpoint?

Assuming it's feasible, other than saving some money what "benefit" would you loose.

I'm thinking new/good non-adjustable ones would be better than the worn out ones??

$180 rear each sounds right. $550 per front sounds rich! No wonder he advised me to avoid the t and ae models. At the time, on my 2000, I thought he said the inserts for the front were the same part number.

Darn.

The inserts on the non t model slip in the strut housing whereas the T car requires replacement of the whole assembly with a new design upgraded part.

Guess you could find a wreck and get the spings top, seats etc and then put new inserts in the junk assembly.

Didn't budget for shocks, every used car needs something, that $2,000 you hold in reservefor 97-01.

We have been getting a rash of LX470 with trashed load/height adjusting systems...........need recharged accumulators and leaking shocks..........the Q45 active all over again.

Takes 6 hours each to change a rear shock plus the shock ~~ $1,000 per wheel..........no substituting without replacing springs everything.........couldn't have happened to a nicer brand.
