hey...guys...I bought a used 98 Q45t recently. The air conditioner started to eject smoke when I got it. I brought it to a mechanic (Takeda Enterprise) and he identified it as oil leak.

He said some cover thing went apart and the oil drain falls onto exhaust pipe. The quote was about $600-$700 cost.

Is that reasonable price to fix a oil leakage?

Thanks

That would be your valvecover gaskets leaking, have BOTH sides and sparkplugs done at same time to save hundereds in future plug change costs. $700 is reasonable to do all above work if proper factory plugs/parts are installed by a trained professional.

I am guessing valve cover gasket. Although there is little repetitive labor, I owuld have him doo both sides. You should clean the TB, EGR and IAC valves, and both EGR tubes at the same time.

How do your KS test out?

The dealer here told me a little over $300 to do the VC gaskets. I didn't ask how much it would have been for the spark plugs though. My VC were leaking when I first went to synthetic, but I switched back to dino, then to Valvoline Maxlife and it isn't leaking anymore.

I still do plan on changing the driver's side VC gasket, but I'm not going to do that until I'm ready to change the plugs. You have to break down the VC to get to the plugs anyway.
