were there any published road tests of the Q45a and any of these obtainable on line from any source? I would love to read a comparison test with other similar class vehicles

My only recollection is that the Q45a was noted as the most desirable model for the enthusiast because of its handling. The standard and t model were (are) considered too soft.

Never have seen the a model timed, but it has to be slower in acceleration, and maybe even handling. TexasOil has two, so he may know something more specific.

A 1965 Rover 3 liter? And it runs? You are to be congratulated, sir!

Thanks

I am a Brit lived in the US for 9 years and brought the Rover with me. It is RHD with 60,000 and in concours condition as I restored in over 5 years before moving here.

I think the Q will be a bit more reliable though as we Brits never did figure out how to design an electrical system!!

In magazine tests the Q45a gave up very little in acceleration over the base and "t" models.(no squat off the line, makes up for extra weight maybe?)

I think there was a big write up in one car magazine when the system was first introduced in 1991 model year, maybe Road & Track?

There's a guy in Houston who knows everything about the system:

I'm pretty sure the June 1992 Car And Driver has a write up.

If I recall they talk about it beinging an unbelievable feature on a full sized car from Japan. Something that (at the time) you couldn't get from Germany.

They have refridgerators made by Lucus!!

. . . . . a very old joke! I actually saw that on a bumper sticker on in a car mag on the back of an MG.

I have an advertisement that shows a BMW 7 Series, a Lexus LS400, and a Mercedes S class swaying in a turn around cones with the Q clearly turning a lot flatter. (Im pretty sure those were all the cars)

I've got a promotional video that compares the 94 Q45a against the 740i, LS 400, Benz E class, and the STS. It shows a slalom and brake dive test, the back of a Q that was rear ended by a bus, and a few happy Q owners. I also have the video of the ten lucky people that were taken to the Arizona Test Center and got the opportunity to test the 95 Q45 against the same vehicles listed except that the LS400 was the new for 95 body style, the E Class was definitely a 420 (not sure about the other E), and the Q was not an active suspension model (I believe the Q45a was discontinued in 95). I read in one of the mags that the stuff used to operate the active system used about 12 of the 278 hp that the VH45DE had, making it even with the VH41's 266 hp. But back to the videos. They totally eliminate any need for me to go to Blockbuster.

Q45a was available in 1995 which I believe was its last year.

If that's the article that comapred an a and a regular Q45, the gist of the article was that the a didn't provide any measureable handing improvements other than less body roll, but did make the car heavier, which hurt acceleration. Their overall conclusion was that it was an interesting attempt, but didn't really provide much of a performance benefit. In their initial tests of the 94, C & D did mention that the a system seemed to be improved over the 90-93s, but didn't into much detail.

"DJ2" is the Nissan paint code for Black Emerald Metallic, commonly referred to as Hunter Green by most folk. BTW, last night at the movies I saw that in the video of the 94 Q45a that the other cars were all 93's and the Benz was an 400E. And in the video with the 95 Q, the 740i was the all new for 95 E-38 instead of the E-32 in the other video.
