There are two types im seeing the ones with the section of the tail light extended on to the trunk and then ones with the section just on the body and a small back up light on the trunk. I like the extended ones. Can some one explain why their are two different ones? Also if I get a car with non-extended ones can I refit it with extended ones?

thanks!

They are two differn't years for the FGY33.

1997-1998 had the "extended" tail lights---More Lexus like.1999-2001 had the shorter tail lights---more Mercedes Benz like.

I think you may be able to use the older tail lights on the later model. You just need the trunk and the tail lights from a older model of course.

1997-1998 had the better tail lights but 1999-2001 had way more features.

Welcome to NICO.

I suspect the harness connectors are different, too, since the later model only has reverse lights on the trunk, where the earlier has more functions there. But I don't know many Y33 details so I could be wrong.

I am in the same boat as you MoD, But I did'nt concider at first about the differn't harness's but after 1996 I think Nissan was trying to save money. So using the same 1 cent connector and wirring for the later 1999 Q45's would be possible.

But its all speculation until a FGY33 guy can confirm it or I look it up in Nissan FAST tommorow.

actually quite a bit is different... lpreston just converted his the other way, from the 97-98 version to the 99-01 version.. Required some custom modification.. Read posts by lpreston

The easiest way is going to be to get a trunklid from that year car, the long and short its not bolt on by any means!

I was a fan of the older 97-98 trunk when I was first looking at buying a Q, but the newer style will grow on you, now I personally think it looks way better, like someone said earlier, the 97-98 is more of an older lexus look and the newer is way more benz or high end looking

would it be possible just to throw on the new trunk without any mods?

You don't have the car yet, so why not get it then ask the questions.
