I have been putting the new Q through its paces. The adjustable suspension really makes a large difference compared to my 98.
Verticle body movement is much better controlled, impact absorption over pot holes is more cushioned and roll on corners is much reduced.
Investigating further it seems that the system is more sophisticated than I first thought.
THIS IS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SYSTEM FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL
"The active damper suspension controls damping force and restrains the movement of the vehiclebody. It assures stable driving when the vehicle moves up and down on large rolling roads or when the vehicle rolls at cornering with a high centrifugal force.
The damping force of the shock absorbers can be adjusted to the level you desire. Set the switch to the position you desire while the ignition switch is ON.
The active damper suspension monitors vehicle body movement with a verticleG sensor. Shock absorber damping force is then adjusted in immediate response to thismovement
Vertical G sensors are installed at the front left side, the rear left side and the rear right side. These sensors measure acceleration. The steering angle sensorr measures steering angle and the steering angle speed. Signals from these sensors are sent to the active damper suspension control unit.
Sensor signals and vehicle speed signals received by the active damper suspension control unit and are instantaneously computed. Instruction data based on the received signals isthen sent to the actuators (stepping motors) above each shock absorber. The actuators immediately operate to adjust the shock absorber dampinfg force
For example the high lateral G forces generated during cornering or lane changes normally result in vehicle body roll. However, on a vehicle equipped with an active damper suspension, this roll isreduced. The damping force of the shock absorbers on the side of the vehicle towards which the roll occurs is instantaneously adujusted (increased) to minimize this roll. This also occurs during vehicle acceleration or hard braking"
