Hi there,I am working with my little bro on a 1991 Q45 131k mi. The car was given to him by a third party. I had a chance to talk to the fellow about what was wrong with it and this is what he said. "It wont start, wont even crank". He goes on to say. "last time this happened it was the fuel injectors, they replaced 2 of them and the problem went away for about 2 years".

Now the car has been sitting for some time since then, I estimate more than 2 years based on the registration sticker being 04. I checked all the fluids and it could use an oil change, but the coolant is still bright and the transmission fluid is nice and pink/red.

I have concerns about the timing chain guides as well and will be looking for signs that the work has been done. I can save myself the trouble if there was never a TSB or recall, since I doubt the previous owner had it done without being told of the problem.

We need to get the battery replaced/charged to see what does or doesn't happen.1)fuel pump starts2)starter operates

Since he said it didnt crank I was thinking alternator/battery/starter/starter relay would more likely be the culprit. What he said about the fuel injectors causing a no crank, no start sounds like he had no idea what is going on inside the engine, but maybe I am the one who doesnt understand?

Thanks!

No, you understand.

You really don't want to crank the engine with the original guides, so I suggest you start there and proceed to the oil pan if any of teh guides are missing or shatterd and ground.

On the rebuild you should then address the cranking problems knowing you aren't going to toast the engine the next time you turn the key.

Welcome aboard. There are a couple of great threads on replacing the guides. If you still have questions after reading them, let us know.
