Is it possible to put the heated drivers seat from a later G50 in to my 91 and actually have the heat work?

At some point, when the right opportunity comes along, I will want to buy a new drivers seat to replace mine. Unfortunately, mine has some pretty big cracks in it. I am thinking that if I bother replacing it, I will probably get a seat from a newer model (more likely to be in good shape). So, if it is probably going to come with heat anyway...well, might as well try to get it to work.

Any input?

My guess is that you'd just need to get 12V to the appropriate connector... I'm not sure if the factory switches have some sort of timer in the system, but getting the switches from the donor car would be helpful. Remember that some of the later models also had electric headrests - so if you get one of those seats you may need to add wiring and a different set of door switches too.

I think getting power over the seats for heat wouldn't be a big deal. Ideally I would be able to get the factory switches...but, even without, I think it would be relatively easy to wire in a switch somewhere.

I think the ideal would to avoid the electric headrest. It would be a spiffy toy, but I think the changes necessary to incorporate it in to my 91 would make it be prohibitive.

Maybe someone else has done this?

didnt the 90-93 have the option for heated seats...if so, wouldnt the harnest be there for the oppropriate connections. it would mainly be a plug and play operation similar to the nissan maximas... all you would have to do is add the switch/s......no?

90-93 never had heated seats...

Rossman, i have a plan to redo your seats... I think we could really make it look stellar..... also, we could probably rig up heated seats...

The seat heaters in the 94s are sewn into the seat pad... so you couldnt use OEM ones, youd wanna use aftermarket.

Good question.

Which interior colors from 90-93 showed up in 94+? Some colors would require a full swap out of seats to match right? ex. Tan's were different Camel v/s beige

Yep. 90-92 were the same, 93-96 were the same.

I guess I wasn't planning to take on the project of heated seats for its own sake. If I can find a way to restore my current drivers seat, I certainly wouldn't need to add an aftermarket heater. I figured that it was likely that the seats I do add would come from a 94-97 Q, and that heated seats would be likely.

However, with all that said, I am very interested in what you have planned! I am so curious... do share!

im going to buy the LEATHERIQUE leather restore. As you saw with the week stent with my Q, i have some cracking in the drivers seat... This will fill in the cracks..... What I want to do is get a small piece of fake leather, put it under the crack, and then use the crack filler to fill it in.....

If your still confused, compile some things together and call me sometime tomorrow... Gotta go study for my chem final...

Sounds interesting... I will have to check in out on yours when you are done. If it works I will do the same to mine. I have to imagine that would be a pretty easy fix.

Maybe I missed it, but does the heated 94 seats bolt right in? That would be cool to install those and wire up the heaters and have it look factory.

my understanding is that the rails and mounting stayed the same between 9093 and 9497. So, in theory, you could just bolt on the new seats. The problem would be finding out the difference in the way the electronic harness' work between them.

If that's the case, then it would be definately do-able. Might be time to look for a donar with matching colors.

I've been looking since I got my car (2 months ago), and they are rare. Seems like the first thing to go when a car gets parted are the seats. The price of a pair with nice leather, plus the price of freight does make the prospect a little expensive. But... we want what we want, you know.

Leather is different between 90-92 and 93 and especially 94-96. The colors don't match....................early gray vs 93-then 94-96 gray for example.

I wonder how close the tan would be to mine. Also the 92 seats are pretty darn hard so it would be a nice relief to have the softer 94s.

94 seats are INFERIOR to the earlier design. You sit much more ontop of them instead of within them. Same w/rear seats. I've lived w/both and am disappointed that Nissan made such a boneheaded (wannabe Lexus) move.

Tom to be honest, i dont feel that way, I used to... I drove Ross's Q enough to realize that theyre really not much more comfortable than my 94s...

the key in the 94 is to find the right position. its harder than in the 9093

I think my seats feel a little firm.. but, that might have to do with the age of the leather. I think the firmer cushioning combined with a slightly softer leather would be perfect.

Note to self... stop by Autozone and get some of that Meguiars Aloe leather restorer.

The way to really gauge the comfort of seats is to take a long drive in em. I've driven from GA to NY and back in my Q, minivans, my old Camry which is now sold etc. The Toyota's plain old cloth seats won hands down believe it or not. After about 10 hrs or so in the Q, I found myself constantly shifting postions in the seat.

The seats in my '78 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme were hands-down the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in - compared to long trips in a '96 BMW 750, my '93 Q45, an '03 Escalade... Haven't found anything nearly as comfortable, as much as I like the Q's seats.
