Anyone know how much weight you can shed from a early 90's Q45 by:removing the seats and replacing with racing seats(I am thinking nice ones for the front and shells for the back)pulling all interior unecssary bits, like carpeting, headliner, trim bitsall sound insulation that you can get to, like hood and trunkstripping the trunkThanks for your input!

motorhead.....good to see you again. Sounds like you are a very serious guy. Check out our member Dgoodno (sp?) ....he has a road race SCCA prepared 94 Q45 that has everything stripped in it. He might be a good source if you are planning on the type of car I think you are.

Tips on lightening the Q cheaply... hell we'd know all about that!

Replace front seats w/ S14 seats - Nice seats and they bolt right inRemove Rear SeatsRemove Trunk Sound Deadening Crap Remove Exhaust, replace with BRM Exhaust (email [email protected] for more info)Remove Airbags (didn't hear it from me if you get a wreck, make sure you have ample harness equipment anchored CORRECTLY)Replace Airbox Assembly - add Cone Filter Interior Crap

The front seats alone are about 50 lbs. a piece ... if not more. The rear seats maybe weigh 25 lbs. all together The exhaust EASILY weighs 150 lbs. (hell maybe even 180-190)The carpeting and other misc. crap weighs in at a good 50 to 75 lbs. The A/C setup weighs roughly 50 lbs. (compressor is aluminum)The powersteering system weighs roughly 20 lbs. The spare tire, jack, and other accessories weigh a solid 50 lbs.The airbox, believe it or not, weighed 11 lbs. on our Q

All n all it wouldn't be hard to gut 500 lbs. out of a Q.

Thanks for the thread links, I emailed them directly. I am serious about getting a nice Q for myself and I like to plan ahead. I just sold my 87 turbo buick and the money is burning a hole in my pocket. must....go...fast....I have a deposit on C6 vette, but it could be early next year before I get behind the wheel, as I am 21st in line at my dealer. Need something to play with until then. Somehow, my 4cycl camry beater is just not cutting it.

I would bet that the "gutted" Q would run in the 14's if the engine were in good (stock) condition.

I will be acquiring a beater Q in July, perhaps that's what i should do with it.... Hmmmmm. :)

I think a Q that's weight-reduced with all the mods available minus the SC could run high 13's.

The door handles did work but I took them off and left the wire. I can still lock, unlock and open the doors. The person who took out the seats and other items also installed the cage so I do not have a "naked" weight. You are correct that the weight is with cage. I have removed the noise abatement items. It will be noisy for street use if you do this. Also, I have removed air bags that are very heavy. I'm sure I'd lose another 20 or more pounds if only I could remove the associated wiring.
