I have two Q45’s. One of them is a 1990 Q45T and the other is an 1992 Q45.

My question is; is there a noticeable difference in handling between the “T” and basic model because I can not tell the difference. I have own the Q45 for the past 5 years but I just got the Q45T about 3 months ago.

I think with cars that old it is going to be more about how many miles are on them, what has been replaced/repaired versus teh difference between these cars on day one.

There are lots of people that will chime in on the features, I know the touring has a rear sway bar and maybe stiffer shocks and springs, I think early touring also had four wheel steer.

How many miles on each and what has been replaced suspension wise, than you will probably find out why they are not that different.

The t cars softer front and addition of a tiny rear sway bar{springs and shocks are the same} account for a 5% rearward shift in ROLL STIFFNESS RATIO

IF ALL THE RUBBER BUSHING ARE BRAND NEW IN COMPLIANCE!

There are over 60 {SIXTY} bushings that could affect the roll stiffness as they age.

but you also got that nifty spoiler too on the touring...I think Q45tech nailed it, condition is the key...what has been replaced etc.

If your bushings are rotten AND OR YOU DONT HAVE DECENT TIRES you will never notice the difference.. Whypeople on here put on FSTB and dont notice differences because of the crappy tires.....

In theory your Q45t will handle better, but without the Q45a swaybar its hard to tell.

Doesn't the T also have a quicker steering ratio?

the "turbo" model was much faster than the standard model.

I had a 1994 Q45 (Layla) and a 1994 Q45t (Lola)at the same time.

Both Layla and Lola had the same replaced suspension pieces. Lola has the HICAS rear steering, which makes the steering stiffer and the car feels much tighter. Layla had a much faster steering ratio, and made the car twitchy at highway speeds. Lola has 18" wheels, and Layla had 17" wheels. Both had 245 or 255 series tires. I added the FSTB to both, and then eventually added the "t" rear sway bar to Layla.

It seemed that Layla liked to kick her tail out a lot on hard cornering, where Lola stays nice and tracks beautifully. This is mostly because of the HICAS rear steering input (be it ever so small).

I think the weight of the rear spoiler makes some difference as well. At high speeds (150 MPH or so), Lola seemes much more stable than Layla ever was. The combination of steering input, added weight, and the rear spoiler made a noticeable difference.

Even so, I miss Layla, and wish I still had her. She was the perfect candidate for a twin turbo install.

I never should have sold her.
