.. New member.. first post.. be gentle .. Hello all.. I am a new member ... but not new to NICO having been a visitor, on and off for the better part of 2002 .. I like the grown-up tone set by the moderators.. and followed; for the most part, by the members... with that thought in mind.. has anyone ever attempted to swap the infiniti v8 into the z32 chassis ?

First of all let me welcome you to our humble abode.

As for the swap question I will leave that to member with more concrete information thna I possess (I think such a swap may have been mentioned on our old NICO boards once)

Thank you for the welcome...In one of my earlier visits I recall someone had a website with pictures of the jspec j30 with a 4.5l factory installed and sold in japan.. the j30 has the same engine as the z32 n/a... ???

The JDM spec J30 had the 4.1L V8.

I also share the same curiosity of Swapping the Q's 4.5l into a z32. It would be an interesting conversion. We are all familiar with the Infinity v-8's refined yet awsome performance. In fact during the 80's Nissan did consider the 4.5l v-8 for the 300zx high performance model but decided against it due to cost and because it would interfere with the Z's low hoodline.

As far as performance, the Z32's twin turbo-charged v-6 can easily be modified to produce 500+ horsepower reliably and economically.

Still, a v-8 under the hood would be an awsome concept if not practical. A major problem using the infinity v-8 is clearance. The Q's engine is both much larger, taller, wider and heavier than the Z32's six cylinder. A better choice may be an LS6 from the Corvette Z06. It is definately more compact and weighs less then the Q v-8. It's more powerful at 405 hp and has a large aftermarket following.

an earlier q engine would probably fit in the 300zx NA because the J30 has less lateral clearance for the VG30DE than the 300zx, yet it could fit the VH4(whatever). thus, the engine should definitely fit into the 300zx. the only question is that since the engine only was in the JSPEC j30, there might be clearance problems with the left hand drive j30 or 300zx that prevent correct fitment. (for the same reason a VG30DETT will not fit into the j30 without major modification due to the location of the power steering. SO, if your serious abou this, check out the clearances youve got between US and JSPEC on these cars.

... my reasons for going with the infiniti v8 were . 1) all aluminum engine..(light weight).. 2) the factory had already done the swap in the jspec j30, which is almost as low as the z32.. 3) the q45 shares the same front suspension as the z32 and by association, perhaps, the crossmember/engine mounts.. 4) harness compatability should be less of a hassle.... I really thought someone had considered this and made the swap long ago. kind of like the sb chevy in to the 240z ...ESWIFT .. brought up a point that I had not considered .. that being the jspec cars are rhd... thanks for all the inputs..

I think hood clearance would be an issue. The V8 is a bit longer than the V6.
