The leather on the front seats of my 90 Q is cracking. I have the beige interior. Has anyone had success in having the seat re-upholstered with new leather? If so, how much did it run? Or is it more cost effective to get new seats? Are these even available from Infiniti?

Is it the entire seat or just the bottom surface?

It's not cheap but reupholstering at a decent shop will really improve your cars interior by tons.Buying enitre seats is generally not cost-effective.

I'll type more details when I have time on Sunday but I gotto scoot for a trip out of town now.

Fred: It's the bottom that has taken most of the beating.

I'll look forward to your reply upon your return.

RMay:I have a 1991 Q45 and I had my armrest done over with immitation leather as well as my front drivers side. The armrest was $45 and matched perfectly. The front seat used the same material and I had to take the seat out and take it to the shop. (Be sure that the seat is raised to it's highest level or they can't get to the underneath to release the cover.) They did my seat for $175 and used immitation leather and it matches perfectly. Not the real thing but a lot cheaper and it will wear better.

Hope this helps!

Rmay:

here are my experiences with two Q45's with different colors (creme and grey).

You will notice that it's generally more expensive to have small sections done piecemeal.

Seatbottom drivers side. (grey).

just under $300 for the entire bottom. Was quoted this amount at first for the left and two center portions of the bottom at first. When I picked up the car I was told extra leather was left over, so they did the entire drivers seat bottom. This doean't sound like much improvement for the money but belive me it really improved my drving experience by a lot, to not have to sit on something that was beat up.They needed to redye the leather a bit for a perfect match which brought the price from 240 or so to almost 300.

Next:

Creme leather.

When I bought this So Cal Q45.It badly needed:New entire drvs seat btottom.entire drvrs seatback (excluding headrest)new center armrest leather on topbottom of passenger seat and one lumbar on the passenger seat

Estimates at 2 shpos here in Louisville KY.One $1300One $900

I went with the $900 one (same one as did my grey Q)Wehn I picked up the car the sight was gorgeous!Again they had had leather left over and used it to cover more (I see a pattern here)They did not just the entire drivers seat but the entire passenger seat as well all for still $900.

So for the amount of seat covereed this was a lot cheaper than doing just the seat bottom.(The upholstery shop also offered to do the job for half price using vinyl which I declined)The match was very nearly perfect (no redying here).except it seemd the new leather was ever so slighlty lighter but it was hard to tell if that wasn't just cuz it was a lot cleaner ( after cleanign the other leather thouroughly I found the new shade to be virtually indistuingishable)

The car interior was upgraded tremendously by that.I think this is a big part ,why ppl often think, my car is a 98 the oldest, ususally they seem to think a 2000 or 2001 ( not knowing Infiniti bodystyles that is).

A very good product for leather care is Connolly Hide Care.....Made in England (Connolly leather is used for the interiors of RR/Bentley, and Jaguar).

I got it from an upholstry repair place. He suggested it and said an important place that many people forget to treat is the edge behind the rear seat, this area gets a lot of exposure and becomes dry.

If its good enough for Rolls Royce its good enough for my Q.
