A few weeks I realized that my Japanese take-out transmission has a drain plug in the oil pan. This was not a feature on the original transmission as I had to loosen all the pan bolts to drain it (what a holy mess). Seems that all the Japanese market transmissions had these as I have seen a few since then. Do any other early G50 owners have drain plugs?

BTW, I have an extra pan with drain plug f/s if anyone is interested. I wouldn't mind trading it for a black faced clock if anyone has one sitting (hint hint). Lemme tell you, this thing is going to be real handy...the thought of pulling all those bolts could make an otherwise astute care-taker neglect his transmission fluid. Not saying to neglect the flush but it will be nice to drain-n-fill in between...mebbe not have to flush so often ($$$).

My understanding is that the original 90-92(?) Q's did not have a transmission with drain plug. But, there was a standard recall on the transmission. So, whenever the dealership replaced the transmission under recall, the new one would have a drain plug.

I could be wrong on that... but, that was my understanding.

When my 92 transmission was replaced at 55k under warranty, the new one included a drain plug. I've never used it though. I and the last owner just had the shop hook up a flush machine.

The earlier Qs didn't have the drain plug, but later models did. After the factory started remufacturing them, it was sort of a toss-up. One of my remans had it, the other didn't... i think they just used the next cleaned-up pan in the pile. My last reman actually has vents in the t/c housing... they tried lots of things to extend transmission life...

But I've had 1 or 2 remans w/o the plug. I just want to be sure no one in the future tries to determine if a car has a reman installed or not based on the presence or absence of a plug.

Does my 94 Q45t have a drain plug? I want to flush the trans soon. It has 108k miles.

If not, how would my mechanic flush the trans?

Any recommendations of new fluids?

Thanks!

The technician will hook up to the output to the heat exchanger or cooler and its return.

He will drop the pan to clean it and change the filter and O ring.

Do a search as this has been discussed in great detail. Most recommend M1 with 6 oz. of Lubeguard Red (not black).

My 93 G50 {NOV/1992} has a drain plug. Was an awesome discovery, considering that things got a little desperate a little while back so I hooked a vacuum hose up to a wet/dry vac thru a funnel and sucked all the old fluid out as I didn't have a suitable floor jack to get underneath and was running late for work. The trick actually worked suprisingly well! While we're on the subject of drain plugs, has anyone drained the torque converter? If so, fill me in on details, mine I believe has a drain plug there also!

One of my remanned had the drain, the other didn't. The one in 2002 had a drain, the first one (circa 1995) did not.

You should drop the pan and REPLACE the screen, DO NOT reuse- it can't be reliably cleaned. If you have a qualified shop replace the fluid, they should get all of it with a flush so no worries with the TC.
