I have a '94 Q45 with 101K mi. OCCASIOANALLY it will not shift out of first gear. The RPMs climb until I notice the problem. I have to back out of the throttle, shift it into neutral, slow down, then back into gear, sometimes it works but I really haven't determined if the shifting or slowing down resolves the problem. In normal driving the thing seems to shift hard into second.

Any ideas, is it a sensor problem???

Obvious, maybe, but when's the last time you had it serviced?

I don't know much about trannys but I might have my 1995 transmission for sale that works fine and was just rebuilt 15,000 miles ago when I had 120K on it. I am putting in a 92 transmission with the lower gears into my 95 car for better acceleration. If our NICO member does not want it and you interested in buying mine then email me. I have not heard a definite "yes" or "no" answer from elwesso so I just thought I would let you know. I have the receipt and phone number of the people who rebuilt the transmission for you to contact them and ask them what exactly they did for the transmission as it cost $2,800 in total to be rebuilt and the rebuilding shop was recommended by Infiniti dealer. I a used transmission on ebay with 110K on it went for $125 so I want somewhere North of this price.

Get there quickly to a dealer where the fault codes can be read!Turbine or TPS sensors or just loose connection coulsd be the problem.

Shifting is commanded according to road speed and throttle position...........the manual shift lever just tells the TCU what you desire.

Not changing the ATF regularly [94 is 10 years old] is a good way to end up buying a newer transmission.

How does the fluid look? Nice clean bright red? Does it smell burned?

The transmission was serviced at 90K mi. The fluid seemed fine. I posted this before I left for Infinity for service and luckily (or unluckily) the problem happened as I was turning onto the dealer’s street. So I hope there is an error code although I have not yet seen an error on the dash when this has happened.

Was this the -first- transmission service? Sometimes, new fluid in a transmission that wasnt regularly serviced causes shavings and other bits lodged in by poor fluid to come loose, and require transmission replacement. I've been fortunate enough to have a Q with fresh Mobil 1 ATF every year.

Could you define "service"? Did it include a mechanically pumped fluid replacement, pan drop and clean, and a filter replacement?

The report is in. Infinity says that the transmission Rev Sensor is intermittent. They want $380 to do the whole job. Does this sound right?

Also, I lied, the transmission was serviced at 73K at Infinity. I asked about their transmission service and it just involves dropping the pan and replacing the filter. This worries me. Does pressure flushing a transmission of this age and neglect have any adverse affects? Should I leave it as is and drive it 'till it fails or go ASAP for a flush and fill?

I would do a BG or Sun transmission fluid replacement and pan drop and filter replacement. Drain just does not get all the contaminated fluid out.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
