on dry roads? Does leaving it on hurt gas mileage or performance if its not needed for the driving conditions? Specifically interested in the traction control on a 2000 Q45T. Thanks

You can leave it off in the dry unless you have billiard ball hard tires.

If it's anything like my 92 TCS, it's fine to turn it off whent he road is dry. Sometimes, I turn it off when it's wet and just be very careful about how I accelerate.

How would I spin the tires for a hundred yards when the light turns green with the dang TCS on?

My vote is OFF, TCS spoils my fun! Mine's off all the time but of course we rarely see moisture of any kind here

Funny, mine cuts in all the time when accelerating from a stop, even in second gear. Damn winter tires.

Lol.

I found that it wasn't all that helpful during the winter. Has the snow melted yet in Montreal?

I say TCS OFF. Specially today, I brought my F50 for a Tining Cover leak to the dealer, goodness I was covered under Extended Warranty.

Well back to the topic Yeah TCS OFF when you have an 08 G35 Loaner!

It's nice up here now, I had the motorcycle out this week. But there will be another blizzard before the end of April, never fails, so the winter rubber isn't coming off just yet.

I just find it surprising that mine will break traction on dry roads with second gear start, with a sluggish transmission. That's not flooring it either, just giving it half throttle. Maybe I'm just special. I leave the TCS on just so I don't wear the tires any more than I need to. I expect it will be much better once I get the summer rubber back on.

That being said my father's G35 wouldn't spin the tires at all from a standing start (well, not without, uh, persuasion), but was lairy as hell in wet weather. Tire choice is critical on those things.

I broke traction with second gear start, but only when wet.

I just leave it on until I think I may want hard acceleration, which is impossible with TCS on. Simple matter to turn it off then.

If you use the right tires, it won't be a pest - good traction = less accidental wheelspin. As well, the more your TCS engages, the faster you wear out your rear brake pads!

So, with cheap, hard tires you'll need TCS to maintain good, safe traction, but it's interference will drive you nuts and you'll spend more on brakes.

Or, spend more on good, sticky tires, drive with as much exuberance as you like and don't worry about TCS being on OR off.

I never turn mine off. Mine is on 24/7. If I turn it off, then I have to deal with the bright orange signal in my face. Plus, I don't care about doing silly spin off at lights.

I like that lamp better than the SLIP light.

I also like to "enlighten" the ignorant unwashed masses about the technological advances contained within my Q. "What's TCS OFF mean?"

"Don't worry about it. I can turn off my traction control."

And then I launch into a lengthy diatribe about how much cooler and advanced my car is compared to theirs. TCS, heated mirrors, one-touch window and sunroof, on board diagnostics, and more.

Now, that is what I hate about my car with the sunroof. I have to sit there and keep the button pressed the whole time while my friend's G50, his is the one touch. I don't know what in the hell the engineers where thinking when they canceled that option on the 97-98 Y33s. I don't know about the 99-01 models though.

:ROTFL

They discontinued that in 94 if I recall correctly. Something about not wanting the car to be "too" luxurious.

Haha. I made that last part up.

The TCS switch? It should be in the center console, directly in front of the armrest. If you don't have TCS then you won't have the button.

If you dont see the rocker switch between your seats in the consolei think thats a sign you dont have traction control. like me!I wish i did have traction control!! I wonder how hard it would be to do??Rear end swap or just a case swap!!

I sent an email. I didn't want to post it in the seller's thread as not to appear rude.

It's a G50 spoiler prepped with gray primer. Ready to paint. $10 and $28.95 for shipping.

I think that there's more to it. Wiring and such. I think TCS-equipped Q's also have some sort of extra fluid reservoir. Or at least some contraption that takes up engine bay space.

I don't really use it much. I guess I just like having it though.

Do you have the mounting brackets/hardware? ILL take it!give me your pay pal address.

The TCS would be nice here where i live, we have snow and ice 75%of the time, and its bad enough owning a rear wheel drive here.A real wheel drive without traction control sucks, but i lovemy luxury cars and the Q happens to be my favorite, ill probablyend up selling it after i finish restoring it and look for a Q45 a or Q45 t,they both have traction control dont they? or do you know?

I wonder how much it wears the pads. The main part of the system is the butterfly choke which cuts airflow into the engine to reduce the power, and damned if it isn't effective (on my car at least). The later TCS/ESP system is much more brake-intensive, you can feel it lock the individual wheels really quickly when it loses traction.

Sorry. I should have been clearer. I'm not the seller. It's an eBay auction that I came across. It ends in 1 day.

Are you going to be staying in Alaska for long after you fix it up? If you're coming back down to the temperate climates, maybe TCS isn't a big deal. Certainly not worth selling a Q that you're worked on for so long for one that can't be guaranteed to be as babied as yours.

At least IMO.

I know the Q45t has HICAS. Other than that, I'm not familiar with the a or t models.

Yeah that part blows. I feel cool with the one touch open, but then I have to sit and hold it to close and I think everyone's staring.

Thankfully my late 1995 A45t does not, thank the fates.

All FGY33 do. In JDM, there were AWD models also.

WHAT!?! What sense does that make lol!!!!! That is worse than my situation...at lease I'm not being teased lol....kinda like a chick letting you feel and rub her down and then you try to unbutton her pants and she tells you..."sorry, I'm an virgin"

Oh, I tried to turn off my TCS, but that light kept blaring in my face, so I turned it back on so I couldn't see it lol.
