If it is not a track car, the stock stall speed is perfect. Read the FSM to test.

After driving Robs car with Level 10 converter I can say that if you want to get the car out of the gate a lil faster then the stock converter does not cut it, Robs stall is 2400 and is not bad at all for every day driving, I currently have a converter that is going to a shop that AZ94Q suggested and cant wait for the upgrade to take place.

do a search on precision industries....they have TC for $700 without your core and will do a 1 time redo of the stall for you if you don't like your current stall for free....although you have to pay your local shop to do the R&R

also the diameter of the TC is smaller so you gain on the rotational mass aspect and make things faster as well

Stall speed vs efficiency is a FINE LINE on a highway driven car.Because at low rpms at 50-65 mph [1665-2165 rpm].........everything has to be just right to pull the mild road inclines [in extreme summer heat] with AC on and avoid economy robbing downshifts.

An even more arduous task is the lock/unlock range in the torque convertor clutch........which is limited to the HP it can transmit before slipping [and burning itself up].

I did the new 90-93 transmission & 2,400 TC at the same time into my 95 car so I can't tell how much the TC helps, but I only went maybe 100-200rpms up from stock. I know there is a member sijoko with a 2,500 stall that they likes from LevelTen.

I would have probably gone with Precision Industries if I knew better at the time I did the mod because of the redo of the stall speed for free and would have started with 2,800 and if that was too high then put it down to 2,500 or so.

I can tell a slight higher reving in the parking garage and city driving, but nothing that seems weird......

Sorry 1qsker (Todd)....been busy lately....will try calling you this weekend.

rsiwicki how does she run w/that combo?? i thought there were problems w/that model year transmission. who did ur torque convertor?/my friend has a transmission shop and told me no problem on a different stall speed convertor as well he told me it would be a smaller unit

I had LevelTen do everything for about $4,000. Based on what LevelTen does with enhancements....I should have no problem and the problems with the earlier trannys from what I understand to be are for the lack of a transmission cooler nad and 2nd gear start.

she moves good...that is about all I can say. I had a bunch of work done to my car all within 1 month (headers, JWT, transmission, TC, exhaust, tune-up, 4.08, etc.) so I really can't tell you how much better one mod is than the other....I have full header & exhaust without any CAT so I think that I might have loss some very initial torque, but after 5 feet or so the car moves good....just check out my time slips and you will see from the other board posts. I don't have the 4.08 installed now....but I liked it when it was installed.

I can and have always been able to spin the wheels and after each mod spinning the wheels have got easier...not like a huge difference though

headers are good...but difficult to say how much of an improvement they gave me since everything was done at the same time within a month with me only driving the car 4 times between the mods...but at least they look and sound great....and I got a best 14.601 1/4 ET at 97mph which is probably one of the fastest Q's on record and I did it in the June Miami Florida heat....I had a XJR try to race me the other day from 70mph on.....we were dead even until 90mph...that is when traffic got in the way and we could not race anymore...70-90mph went very quick

the 2,800 stall is a tough call....only experience or trial and error will really let you know as a lot depends on what kind of driving you do. I notice my car reving every so slightly more around city traffic as it now takes higher rpms to get the TC to fully engage, but when I punch it the car really moves nicely....on the highway...I can't tell a difference. Also hills will have a noticeable impact as me in the parking garage going up the ramps is where I really notice the higher stall. Best of luck to you on the stall choice if you go with a new TC.

It is recommended to do a transmission flush once a year so if the stall is too high then maybe after 1 year has passed you get teh stall reduced while the transmission is being serviced.

What they don't tell you is stall speed is a direct function of torque foot pounds..........if you add torque the stall rpm will go up on the same TC.

Unfortunately none of the common mods will add torque under around 3300 rpm [JWT ecu].

One of the reasons you don't inject nitrous till after ~~3000 rpm unless you WANT to burn the tires off.

Just for interest sake, the TC is the same as the Patrol. Can't say what the Stall Speed is though.
