Has anyone here done thier own install on a 91 q45? I did a search but didn't find too much. Is this a DIY or would you recommend having a shop do it? I'm looking at: In dash CD/MP3, door and rear speakers, possibly adding an amp - thanks

The Q has always used a Bose system, that included powered (read self contained amp) speakers and will require a significant amount of work.

The question you have to ask, is what are you trying to accomplish? (MP3? better sound? Replace blown speakers?, etc)

However you slice it, if you haven't done some car audio work before, this isn't the easiest, but we'll be glad to help.

Basically I'm looking to replace the whole system. The original unit only has the casette (which is broken) and the front speakers are crackling so bad that I have to turn them off and only use the rear deck speakers. I'm not looking to go crazy with a top of the line system. I've done a few installs replacing HU's and speakers. Is it a difficult job because of the interior trim pieces or because of the bose? I really don't have a problem with junking the bose system and starting from scratch.

A head & 4 shouldn't be too hard and you can find tips on carstereohelp.com for removal. If I were to replace all my stuff, I'd want to run new speaker wires as the existing ones aren't designed/intended for use with a powered signal.
