in between about 45 degrees of the steering wheel right dead in the middle, when i turn the car doesnt move at all. so in other words, to move the car just a little whole going straight, i would have to turn the steering wheel about 45+ degrees for the car to even move. and another thing, when im going straight, the steering wheel is crooked to either side, depends on which turn i just made, and when i just made a turn with my turn signal on, the turn signal stays on after the turn and doesnt turn off like its supposed to. would anyone know what the problem could be? im thinking the steering rack is bad, but im not really sure. if anyone could help that would be great. thanks alot.

What do your fluid and steering rack seals look like? Ever replaced the steering rack bushings? Any maintenance? How about your steering links? Rest of the suspension up to OEM standards?

I'd say it's definately time to check out the rack bushings, the u-joint that connects the steering column to the rack, and everything else steering related. It sounds like a serious issue - to the extent I would be afraid to drive it until finding the problem!

If the steering is that bad, then the suspension is probably in poor shape as well.

Try this:

New StrutsNew dust bootsNew strut mountsNew bump stopsNew upper linksNew sway bar bushingsNew tie rodsNew rack

This should take care of your suspension and steering woes. I bet your tires will last much longer, too.

Get this fixed and stop driving it till you do... If you insist on driving it... lets have a little talk about your will... oh and you might as well pick one out from now.... They're having an Xmas sale....

If the problem is just the rack sliding in its hold down mount isolators [bushings] .......the 2 are cheap like under $30 and a few hours work.

Very common problem solution, usually resulting from PS fluid leaking on the rubber bushings from a PS hose leak........fixing that leak will cost more in parts.

Old cars need all rubber parts/hoses replaced at least once at around 10 years some every 6 years and the multiple of 6.

Just part of $3,000 [at dealer prices] annual maintenance to keep things near new. Just because you don't spend all of it doesn't mean it doesn't accure.

Easiest thing is to check and see if its the column or the rack.

Turn the steering wheel and see if it keeps pace with the lower joint at the rack. (You'll need a friends help on this one)

(Also, lower joint is what connects the column to the rack)

If the steering wheel turns but the lower joint doesn't, then its probably the column.

If steering wheel turns and the lower joint keeps pace, then its time to take a long hard look at the rack.

Either way, you need to park her & fix her before its too late.
