Section EL 17-22 in FSM has troubleshooting but starter replacement is similar in most brands of vehicles.............takes about an hour including driving on/off rack............newbees may take triple with a rack or allday with jack stands.

Be certain of your diagnosis because the starter usually lasts past 200K.

Battery clamps. If they're not tight or you're having to wrench a couple of extra turns to get it tight it's time for replacement. Many of us have had the same problem. Replace both clamps first if in doubt. They're much cheaper than a starter.

BG makes a product that is a sleeve that slides over the battery terminals to add some thickness to allow worn cable clamps to be tightened down correctly....simple,easy, cheap fix that allows you to keep current factory terminated cables/clamps on your car!!!!!

I was using a flattened piece of lead sheet as a sleeve until the clamp finally wore out.

Starter replacement at 175K on my 94 Q.

Coincidentally it happened when I plugged in a radar detector into my cigarette lighter. Wouldn't start that day until after 2 hours. Plugged in the radar 3 days later--starter failed again. Replaced after.
