I'm looking to modify my 1991 Q45t. Just the basics... exhaust, intake... i'm trying to find a turbo or supercharger. Everyone I've asked has told me that I'm out of my mind. Please someone help.

Elwesso has a supercharger that he can sell you. It won't be cheap, but it will work.

What are you planning on the intake?

Welcome to NICO, Dr. Tim. How's Babaramdas?

Well, you need to read a lot of the previous posts here. How deep are your pockets?

Now one has a reliable supercharger set up on the street that we know of yet, even Elwesso's, which hasn't ever been done even once.

450ZXTT has a twin turbo setup that seems reliable in a Z32 (he posts infrequently so we have no documented development of it). I think he was quoting about $15K to put it on a VHY45DE in a G50.

I think the twin turbo setup could be done much cheaper than that, it all depends on how one values time. 15k for parts and labor at $80/hr might not be outrageous. Theoretically it should be easier in a Q than in a Z32 because the Q has a little bit more room.

Remember also, Dr. Birkmire had the supercharger on his Q and it worked (the same one I "offer")... it was the test mule which was apparently supposed to end up on my Q but never did... The EATON M90 supercharger which is what is usedin the kit is very reliable and proven on the GM 3800 series.. He didnt end up mass producing it because he couldnt get the demand for it..

If your staying N/A going with a full custom exhaust is kind of pointless. If you want a better sound, I would recommend replacing only the mufflers..

Nice suspension/tire/wheel combo will be your best upgrade.

Nico ecu (they still make them? I dont know) is a good choice as is a nice pipe setup. That is if you like rumble, which I'm partial to.

Yeah, but maybe we need to define "work".

I thought that test mule was hooves up? Don't think it even made it to 30K without problems.

By definition, the Q45 is a sleeper. Do exhaust and intake mods, and it becomes a loud V8 4-door sedan, not unlike a Caprice or Crown Vic with FLowmasters.

If you want a sleeper, put in a 150 shot of nitrous, and a secondary fuel supply and keep the itty bitty tires on it.

Or get downright nasty and swap in a front sump American V8 that has no hope of passing emissions. I dunno if you have emissions testing where you are, but there's none here and I keep flip-flopping on whether I want to go remote mount turbo or 351C Ford V8 in my extra Q45. I'm mainly waiting to see how the other remote turbo works out on here before I try either. I've got other cars to piddle with while I wait. And yeah, the old american v8 won't be as technologically advanced, but it's cheap and easy to modernize them quite well and get gobs of reliable power. Who needs 4 valves per cylinder when a decent street oriented cam, intake, and exhaust will get you above 100% VE with an old 2 valve American V8 "boat anchor"? Just some food for thought.

Would be nice to maintain, ride, handling and fuel economy.

If you want serious power from your Q, just turbocharge it. I did everything to my car (intake, exhaust, 4.08 diff, etc) and I still ended up putting a turbo in it at the end. The money that I spent on all those mods would have paid for my turbo project.

My suggestion is to go with a rear mount turbo if you don't want to do a lot of work. There is one rear mount Q45 in the works. Search for posts by QSIGUY.

If you want all out power, then the front mount is the way to go. My car is motivated by a Garrett T76 that is capable of over 900 hp. Of course, the car is nowhere near that power level now at only 5 psi but it shows you the potential of a turbo system.

Here's my engine bay:

I'm not sure about Siju's setup but I think were both well below $5k for our turbo systems. I have more work to do still but I have pretty much all the parts already and I think I am still under $3k with not much more to buy.

Keep in mind that both Siju and I both are doing all of our own fabrication and installation work which saves $1000's.

It is not as expensive as people think. If you take the money that you would spend on intake and exhaust mods, you can do a lot towards a do-it-yourself turbo system. In retrospect, I wish that I had done a turbo from the beginning. It is the best bang for the buck.

That was THE cheapest mode I've ever done to any car/truck I've owned!I spent WHOOPING 35-40 $$ on a rear diff when I had my OldLAdy (Y33).I say money was well spent!Cheers!
