Some have you have seen my pick and pull thread. I found a nice black leather passenger seat that I am going to dye and repurpose to the driver side. I will use this thread to document the process and results

Here is what I started with

I took apart the seat, and then covered it with leatherique leather rejuvinater to, and baked it next to my propane heater to open up the leather and accept the conditioner.

I then sanded the leather down with the preparation solution provided by leatherique. I didnt take a picture I will take one when I do the seat back

After letting it dry overnight I hung it up and began to paint

Air setup

A few runs, I will sand out before applying the second coat, this dye flows faster then auto paint so my material setting was too high, live and learn

Great job.

But how hard was it to remove the leather cover from the foam?

The leather is still on the foam, I plan to swap the cushion and foam togther. If that doesnt work its just a matter of cutting hog rings and re attaching

Looks like a surface treatment only, so I wonder how long it will last?

Very well done, though.

How can you tell its only a surface treatment from the pictures?

Looks great Jared.

Is this the same material you used to patch your tan seats or another product by Leatherique?

I was going to go to Pick n Pull Sunday and grab the active sway bar. Looks like I should have gone a couple of days earlier.

Looks great! I'm assuming you used an air brush or spray gun of some sort? Also, I though one had to do the sanding before applying the leatherique in order to thoroughly soak in?

Did you send in a sample for match or did you provide a color code?

I did use a scotch bright pad when applying the conditioner

I used an HVLP mini gun to apply the dye

I sent in a color swatch from the bottom of my back seat and had a custom matched color made

I have used this process on my seats before, they dye holds up pretty well I have had this done for over a year. The only places I had trouble is where I used the crack filler. Other places held up great.

Since this has no cracks I expect it to last a while. If I have to reapply in a few years I will just consider this another maintenance item to keep the car in top shape.
