Hello everyone, someone might remember about 3 months back i posted a thread about a Q45 and lifter problems with a loud noise and power loss....

Well today we got everything back together after much time invested w/ a personal mechanic and everything is still the saaaame, after BGclean flushes, oil changes and a lil TM fluid to help the lifters but alas... still noise.. still un drivable and now the stereo is crossed with somthing...

So im here to ask the experiened people what my options are,Do i try to sell it as is for parts? as its in very good cosmetic condition outside and in...Do i sell it in pieces and try to get as much as i can?Do i try to fix the problem at the dealorship, but this seems very expensive and i dont really have alot of extra money at the moment..Or somthing else i havnt thought of?

If anyone has interest in parts on a 1990 Q45 Gunmetal color let me know, the only thing wrong is the lifters... (coming from a seasoned mechanic) we just cant get them to unstick.... anyways let me know i really just want this thorn outa my side...

There were a limited number of early Q's with a TSB about various valve noises. One of them mentions retorquing the bearing cap screws. I think it's unlikely it's your issue, but I would think about trying that before you dump the Q. If you get serious about trying it, I can email the TSB to you or figure out a way to post it here.

Is it running well otherwise? Unless you can't stand driving it with the noise, you might just keep driving it... it'll either break something off completely, or maybe break some debris free and allow the HLA to function again.

If it were me I would make the trek up to T3 in Atlanta - but if funds are tight and you're ready to consider a part-out, I don't see why you wouldn't just drive it until it dies. There's no market for engine internals or a tapping engine in a part-out anyway.

So are you are saying a "mechanic" did not follow the FSM rehabilitation or replacement of the hydraulic lash adjusters?

Regardless, normally the engine is replaced with a carefully selected adn rehabilitated JDM take out. DIY will run you abouit $3,500, a competent Infiniti technician in a well equipped shop should run you about $5,500.

Your call.

If they weren't properly bled before re-installation they will tap. They aren't lifters, they're lash adjusters and have to be bled by releasing the check ball in each adjuster with a small stiff wire while pumping them while submerged in oil.

If it were me and I didn't care about the car, engine or anything else I would take that thing out and hold the rpm's at about 5k for a few minutes after the car is warmed up. If they don't pump up in that time then they're never going to. That is the only way you are going to get rid of it short of re-bleeding them.

What have you got to lose?

Well, it could blow up too. Either way it's not a good thing to have happen. BTW, my opinion is not at all anything that any certified mechanic would recommend. It's probably a bad thing to do however if it fixes the problem then +1 for you. If not then take away 1.

Lol, lots of unique replies thanks guys... It doesnt really run well, or i would be driving it... Its hard to get the RPM's above 3.5k without it sputtering and sounding like a dying old hag, id part with the car for around 1,000.. like i said everything else cosmetically is in awesome condition... its a 90 Q45T w/ Custom wheels and great paint on door panels, hood, fenders, the left rear fender has a scratch in it but thats all...

Im def not willing to pay over 2,000 in diagnostics and fees getting her fixed, so im just trying to get rid of it.... Its too bad this car was alot of fun, and comes with a certent class when you ride in it... damn shame

and my mechanic just doesnt have the experience with Q's or any high performance car...

MAF is actually new, but it does kinda sound like the sputtering is coming from that, even though there is still an extremly loud clanking sound coming from the lifters...

OH well if anyone has any interest in the car, or parts from it let me know with an offer and we'll most definetly talk.

I wish you were in Houston I would pick it up from you. My Q had a lot of lifter noise after putting a jdm engine in it. I flushed the oil several times and it finaly calmed down it seemed to be sludge in the oil galley.
