Clunker Parts' Crossroad: Useful Spare or Gritty EndWhere Clunkers Go to Die

The Cash for Clunkers has highlighted an aspect of the auto industry that's rarely focused on -- what happens to a car after it dies?

By Michael S. RosenwaldWashington Post Staff Writer Friday, August 21, 2009

Killing a clunker takes patience and intestinal fortitude. Five minutes ago, a hulking Infiniti Q45 at Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Germantown guzzled a lethal dose of sodium silicate -- liquid glass that hardens engine arteries. A technician keeps stepping on the gas. The Q45 keeps purring.

But the inevitable occurs.

Long live the Q45!

One word I would never use to describe a Q is "hulking."

I can only hope that the people that allow there Q's to get destroyed like that and the people that actually destroy the Q's suffer the same fate as there car's.

Probably already destroyed by owner neglect and abuse.

On CNN Headline News they made a big stink about how someone turned in his Maserati Biturbo through CFC, as if that car even had a chance of survival, but it made for eye-catching news for the uninformed. People heard the name Maserati and thought it was something exotic. The Q45 seems to attract a lot of negative press too:
