:( :shocked2

Now before you guys go nuts

I am just looking at all my long term options. Keep in mind I have blue smoke meaning that the motor is going to have to be replaced sooner or later. Now the shaking has started and I just see more and more high priced maintenance coming in the future.

First of is there anyone here who would be interested in buying my Q?

How do you guys generally feel about the J30's and the maxima's?

I have been looking at the J and at 93 SE maxima's.

I am just trying to see my possible options. I really like the Q but everything is high priced on it. The body is beautiful and before this shake it ran smoothly and nicely.

Alright guys lets get the comments and suggestions going!!!

If budget is an issue, a third-gen Maxima is a perfect compromise of price, performance, and reliability. The J30, like the Q, may have transmission problems if not meticulously maintained. And other smaller things can go wrong on the J, just like the Q.

Also consider a G20, any year.

This shake... it happens at idle or when?

I love the 2nd Gen Maxima's. I had a 1990 GXE, a 1992 SE 5-SPD, and then went to the 3rd Gen, a 1995 SE Auto. By far, the 1992 SE 5-SPD was the most fun. It was faster than the 1995 SE. Of course, the 5-SPD helped a lot.

It is also quite similar to the first gen Q45, in outward appearance.

Sorry to hear you are considering getting rid of the Q. It does sound like it might be time, with the problems you listed. It is just darn hard to let go of a car so fine.

Jesda - The car has the shake at idle. When you are at the light you feel it. When you are in park you will feel it. The shake is not that bad but it is there.

Jeff - I totally agree with your statement about the max. I had a 94 with the rare leather on the doors behing the armrest.

I really dont want to let the Q go simply because after 10 cars this is the one that I really wanted. But the reality is that every repair on this car is expensive. Unless you purchase the car with alot of the major things done to it and it has been maintained well it just because to much of an expenditure. Notice I did not say investment because I did not by this car to make a profit.

The Q is really a nice car and if I dont sell it now I will just have to ride it out. I wanted to try to sell it now and put that cash away towards my replacement.

I like the 3rd gen max also but those are still pretty pricey. If I had that kind of money this wouldn't even be a discussion.

Well the consensus seems to be that the J is a mini Q with little gremlins just lurking for me. I thought about going back to my 1992 mazda 929 but those cars have the same problem with ridiculous maintenance bills.

Keep the opinions coming guys!!!

Maybe this thread could be beneficial to other potential infiniti/nissan buyers.

Buy my Q and just get it over with!!! :D All the benefits of Q ownership without any of the nonsense (that Ive dealt with)

You knew I was gonna say it!

Anyway, the maxima is a good choice. That FWD VG just seems to go forever... My friend has a 1st gen, and its had NO maintenace for a long time and it still runs... Barely runs, needs a nice tuneup but still goes... Plus, it has the world famous NISSAN DYNAMIC SOUND SYSTEM..

WesYou mean the stereo with the clock radio speaker in them.

And yes I knew a shameless plug was going to come sooner or later.

Just ask JT money about his old 85 maxima with the 5 speed. That damn car ran like a champ until an unfortunate cooling system failure due to an even more unfortunate newbie failure;)

Pito, get an Accord. Rock solid. I had my 94 EX for 9 years, and except for a few little things, The car ran well. I've driven a G20 and I liked my Accord better. Maxima has nice power, but Front dive cant handle this power TORQUE STEER. How much do you have to spend on a car? The Q isn't so bad on repairs. I spent alot this year, but last year I didn't even spend $500.

The Q is expensive to keep if you have to take it to a shop for repairs. Plus, you have the added aggravation of dealing with all the crooks posing as mechanics.

If you can work on the car yourself, you will save a lot of money. The first thing you need is a factory service manual, if you don't have one yet.

A nice car that I really like is the 93-94 Maxima SE. Those years came with the 190 bhp engine. The engine is overbuilt like the Q45's.

The best would be to buy the Maxima and keep the Q45. Both are great cars.

The Accord is a good choice. I had one right before the Q. Boring but well-built. But the Maxima is more fun with a little more style.

My 94 Accord EX had a 5 speed stick so it wasn't too boring. It nice to toss on the curves also. Besides a lack of power, 145hp, it still had some get-up-and-go.

The accord is just not an option.

I do not want to go back to a small car. And even in stick the accord is boring it just makes alot of noise for no good reason. I am thinking about getting a cheaper car but not a little car. The maxima is just right and the se in a 5 speed is a demon.

The Q no matter how you slice it is expensive to maintain. Even the DIY guys if you tabulate just in parts and tool you would find you spent a pretty nickle.

My mechanic is very good with pricing, not too expensive and even waits a week or two for me to pay him. Also remember guys I live in Brooklyn. Right on a busy parkway with city drivers. I couldnt even imagine seeing someone doing a chain guide or even an oil change on my block. Most of my personal work is done at the parking lot of autozone.

The maxima is just the best choice overall considering that it has a bigger trunk than the Q. These are just possibilities because even with the shake the Q drives better than most.

Sijoko - I am talking about saving money and having two cars no matter what they are will in no way be a financial gain.

Well JT was a little upset with me for posting that the Q is for sale but what do you guys think?

Do you think I should sell?

Anyone know anybody who would want to buy?

If its beyond your patience and budget, let it go. Start with an ad in the paper or autotrader. Be warned, you'll get a lot of low offers so it'll take some patience.

Avoid the SHO... dealers dont know jack about them and the Yamaha V8 has serious problems.

You could always pick up a retired police cruiser.

You can't really get much for it with the aforementioned issues. At my insistence my Mom has a '94 Maxima and loves it, it has a '95 trans (no filter just a plug) from the factory. After the Squeefoo Super treatment I.E. all fluids, and filters, plugs and wires, brakes. ETC. It's very nice and could be a suitable replacement for the Q. Just doesn't have the same panache.

I still love the max but it will be hard to find the exact one that I want. I want the se motor which I dont believe is available in the 94 trim but it is in the 93 trim. I never knew that the 95 and better transmission was compatible with the 94???

I know I will get low offers but it still is a nice car. It still runs fast and still reliable. Does have some new parts on it. I think I will pull the spark plugs and check those out they are probably fouled I am sure.

The body is pretty good as is the interior. Shifts wonderfully too.

The pristine max that I would want and could afford is1. black exterior2. black or grey interior3. se motor4. 5 speed (usually is in se)5. FULL LEATHER INTERIOR INCLUDING DOOR PANELS

unfortunately the Q has spoiled me. The size, interior, power all come together nicely.

I bought a trans kit for a '94, and laid there looking for a pan ("should be pretty obvious" -WTF -scratching his head). In the book it says for a '95 pull the plug and all I see is a plug, and I know it's a '94. Must be the last production for '94. Looked at all the bolts/connections never been touched.Bummer to have such a nice car but nowhere to work on it. Rent a spot?

Well I am still in the thinking about it stage. I really love this car. I have been looking at a trade offer by my mechanic for a 88 300E benz. Nice car but it aint no Q. Even the guys on the benz forum have called the Q an exotic type car. I could probably do work in the autozone driveway but that requires that anything I do be done between 8am-8 pm meaning no room for error or rest. I am going to try to change the spark plugs, fuel filter and ohm the injectors. Wes is convincing me that I could even do my valve covers seals my self.

Hey aren't 800 numbers free...

Anyway I will see when I have the next weekend free and MAYBE I will try to tackle the valve covers. I also need to do a transmission filter and oil change.
