Sorry to jump over to your board but I need some help and you guys seem to be the experts. I have transplanted a BMW M3 driveline into my Triumph TR6 which runs its power through a 95 Q45 R200 VLSD. The current ratio is factory (3.538:1) and the BMW Trans 5th gear is 1.0:1 and my tire diameter is 25". With the BMW transmission I pretty much can't use 1st gear and I'm turning 3K RPMs at 63mph. I'm trying to get it down to 2500 RPMs at 60mph so I'd like to find a supplier of ring and pinion sets for this diff.

Does anyone make sets in the 3.0:1-3.3:1 range for my R200 VLSD?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Be careful who you have customize your differential….I went the opposite direction of you with a 4.083 ratio, but it blew after 300 miles of gently trying breaking it. The 2nd one is doing good and no problems & 10,000+ miles as the shop learned from there previous mistakes and stood behind their work covering all my costs, etc.

I have heard that the G35/350Z differential have the same type of housing being a 6 bolt side output flange and they have the the ratio of around 2.9? Something that might suit your needs for a direct fit replacement. Good luck with your resto-mod.

Dave - AWESOME project!!!

Most modern Nissan diff's are very similar, if not the same. I'm trying to think if anything came with a higher ratio than that, and none are coming to mind.

Actually, Wes (elwesso) may know - Wes, didn't Slim have some super-high ratio in his VH45DETT-powered Z32?

slim has the stock 3.54... The F50 Q45 gears would probably fit into the R200 case, since the F50 uses a 3.1:1 or something like that... All newer nissan (except AWD) use a much higher ratio.

Might make more sense just to get an F50 diff then.

F50 = 2002-2006 Q45.

I have had compared a 300zx Turbo R230, a 350Z AT R200 and the F50 R200.

The 300ZX R230 had a ratio of something like 3.6

The 350Z is AT is a 3.3 and is a 4 bolt companion flange

The F50 for 2002 only is a 2.78 and is 6 bolt companion flange

The later F50 and all Y34 are all 3.1, 6 bolt as well

The R200 in the later nissan cars have the mounting ears about 1" lower than the earlier cars. And the rear diff cover has one stud instead of the 2 on the earlier units.

The companion flange for the input shaft are interchangeable.

Contrary to what is said, I have yet to see an F50 and Y34 diff with a factory LSD. Even the FSM says that these cars do not come with one, tho you can install a factory or aftermarket unit in.
