I am actually new to the Nico Forums but I have visited from time to time after I got my Q45. I have a few questions about how it is running and what might be the issues. I have had it for about two months now and I am finally starting to figure out some of the quirks.

Issue 1: When I go to start the car again after it has been driven a while (normal running temperature) it cranks a lot trying to start. Unless I push down on the throttle, and then after a few cranks it will start just fine. I don't know if this is related to a throttle body issue or what.

Issue 2: It has been unusually cold down here in Texas this winter (today it is 22 degrees) and it seems to have an effect on the car. I happen to only live about 1 mile from work so the car doesn't have too much of a chance to warm up. It will be driving fine while I am on the highway and all of a sudden I will feel a little shutter when I press on the throttle. If I slow down to where I am sitting at a light the idle is very erratic and seems like it wants to die. If I hold the idle up and then get on it a bit from the light the car will usually correct the idle and it won't be an issue again. Could this be related to a problem with the computer, or possibly injectors?

Issue 3: Again this usually happens when it is super cold outside. The car won't go into 'D' when I am trying to drive. But if I put it down into 3rd it will go right in. I usually have to drive in 3rd for a few minutes and then I can put it into 'D' without a problem. I have check the trans fluid level and it seems to be at the correct level. Could the transmission be going out? I did enough research on these cars before I bought mine to know that the transmissions can be an issue if not take care of. So I already have a 95 Q45 transmission with 33,000 on it ready to go if I need to replace it.

There are one or two other little things, but I can take car of those. I am really happy with the car, I got it for a steal. I got it for less than half of what it is worth. I have already lowered it, got new floor mats, new tires, and chrome 97 Q rims, hopefully next to be tinted. If anyone can help me out with these issues I would appreciate it. I know someone that works at a Infiniti dealership (that is how I got the transmission) and he will cut me a pretty good break on parts and labor so I am hoping to get these problems fixed if I can figure out what is going on with it. Sorry for the extra long post but I like the website and I will be a regular around here.

Welcome overkill..... You know thats a great name for a Q45 owner since thats really what they have to do in order to stand it.....

1. Do you hear any humming from the rear of the car... Sounds like the fuel pump is going to me, or you may need a new fuel filter...

2. Sounds like the MAF to me... First wiggle the MAF connector at idle and see if it changes anything..... Check out http://www.q45.org for more info on that, that kind of problem is pretty well documented.

3. Wow great having a used transmission ready to go!!! When I had my old Q and it was really cold and I didnt let it warm up, it would hesitate for a second before shifting... Id try getting a transmission flush and see if that helps.....

How many miles are on the car?

Welcome again to our forum1!!

The car has just over 140,000 at least it did two months again when I got it. Thanks for the welcome, I like getting in touch with some guys that are more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am. I have had all sort of old cars and I even have a 1970 Pontiac LeMans with a 496 Big Block in it right now, but the Q is a different species compared to it. I haven't had to deal with a car that actually has a computer in it for a while Thanks again for the welcome, I am going to try some of that stuff with the Q tonight.
