Have heard rumors of later conversions, but it would be extremely difficult. The car is heavy, and the engine works very well with the automatic, especially in highway passing.

My research of the past week has suggested from a few sources that the bellhousing of the 300ZX gearboxes matches up with the VH41/45... ?

If this is indeed proven to be true (and one day I intend to find out by hand) I guess you could go with a Zed transmission and fabricate mounts, tailshaft, etc. etc to suit.

True - But this has been hashed out ad nauseum (search button).

No place for a clutch pedal OR a clutch MCyl, little room for an E-brake relocation, firewall and tranny hump modifications required, exhaust re-routing, custom made replacement driveshaft, and so on.

Not only that, but it'll STILL be slower than the automatic. WHY? Because your gear ratios will be optimized for the torque and gearing of a Z car, not a Q.

That being said, GO FOR IT anyway!!! :D

A member here ( I forgot which one) had an estimate from a speed shop, that quoted him 5 to 7k (max) for conversion and that inluded moving the handbrake, ecu etc.

I think an early Q with a manual would be very interesting..As soon as someone gets one for a good deal I might consider it.

For a better discussion, this should be moved to Infinit engineering section , which I will .
