I'm thinking i might get a q45. I tried a few searches but didn't find much. I wanted to know, would you go with a q45 or q45 t? Also, since i'm looking at the 99-01 models, is there any difference between the 3 years? Would you go with a particular year as well?

Not much added between model years after 1999. 2000 MY offered the Anniversary Edition with polished wheels and birdseye trim. Nav became an option in 2000 as well.

I don't think that the Touring is necessarily worth a premium in price. The differences being the 17 inch wheels and selectable suspension. I would go with the car with the better maintenance history, for sure.

If that's the body style you like I'd rec the 99-01. The headlights are a tremendous addition in both appearance and function. I also think that the smaller tail lights give the car a bit more modern appearance...but that's just my opin.

While I really like the look of the touring model...and the AE especially, I'd avoid it due to the significantly more complicated suspension. Call around and get some parts prices for the struts and other bits and you'll see a fairly hefty jump when you go active. That vintage of auto will probably require a suspension rehab if it hasn't been recently done and the cost ain't exactly cheap. Others here can comment with more accuracy, but I'd guess that you're looking at least an additional $3-500 to rehab a t suspension over what a basic Q would cost. Call around and get some parts quotes. Plus, the service manual has MANY more pages for troubleshooting and working on a 't'. These rides are getting toothy, and all those broken down old chickens are limping home to roost.

My 'basic' suspension parts were close to 700 bucks for the front only (cartridges, all mounts, bearings and rubber, and two new tension rods). Plus, how "sporty" can you expect a 3800 pound car to be?? To me, it's a big lux bus, and the handling is adequate.

The plus side is these things are cheap. Find a good one (well stroked) and you've got a bargain.

I first looked at a 2000 Anv. edition and although the car was pristine in every respect the Nav feature was not to my liking. I rejected that car. I found another 2000 without the Nav and without the active suspension, on Ebay from FL sold by a private owner and paid 8750 bucks for it.

Unless you're a devil for punishment buying the simplest model is my preference. When everything is running well it's OK but some of the features on some cars today are a bit much if you are into DIY and can strain your knowledge and patience.

My 2000 handles very well as far as I am concerned. Very fast for such a heavy car and is not really a gas hog. The previous owner had the major service/repairs done by Infiniti and oil changes done by Jiffy Lube or something similar. All in all I think I did well and ended up with a very nice car that is really a pleasure to drive.

However at 95 K miles the valve cover gaskets need changing. Not a big deal really and is a DIY but rather tedious. Oh well...

Good luck

Jack

Infiniti dealer performed service history along with the Infiniti senior technician's inspection report should be the determining factor.

The t and ae shocks are more expensive to replace than the standard model.

A lot less tricky if you read the sitcy above and the other posts on this board. There is a way to verify and check a car's condition pretty well.
