If "one of those places" is a salvage yard then yes they will come pick it up and pay you for it but you're probably only going to get $100-$200 for the car. They won't care if the registration is current or if your name is on the pink slip as long as you have the pink slip. If you don't have it don't even bother calling them, and don't buy the car since you'll have no way to get rid of it unless you abandon it on a street corner.
I've parted 3 Q45's in my RV driveway so here's my advice. If you have a flat driveway to park it in and are willing to sell and ship parts in the Infiniti Parts forum then....you can easily remove enough parts in a weekend to get your ROI and ship the car out on Monday morning to a salvage yard.
TB and front calipers/rotors for the 240 guys (they'll sell in 2 days), CAS, MAF, fuel injectors, FI harness, coils and harnesses, power transistors, Fuel pump, FPCU, hood struts, A/C compressor, starter, alternator, window regulators, antenna motor, Bose speakers, seats (if not torn), interior trim, sway bars, ECU, etc. You get the idea. Take a look at the parts forum to see what parts are being requested by the members.
You're not going to sell everything overnight but you should get most of your $$ back in the first 4-6 weeks. I think $1200 and even $800 is a little too much for a non-running and non-registered Q. The 3 non-running Q's I bought for parts were $200, $300, and $500 and I've bought 2 running and registered Q's for $500 each. This guy won't be selling his Q anytime soon so hold out and the price will drop. In the meantime there's plenty of $500 Q's out there, especially in L.A. and San Diego, if you're patient. Good luck.
