Ok I give up....How do you R&R the O2 sensons on a 94 Q45...I can't get to them very well let alone remove them.... Do I need to drop something or what. I have a O2 senson socket that I struggled to get on the sensor but can't seem to figure out how or what I need to do to get a socket wrench on the socket.

That one's tricky...took me a bit over an hour to figure them out, I think (I have a '90--I'll assume they're the same). On one of them (can't remember which) I came down from above with an extension that I slid between the engine and firewall, into a u-joint, then into the sensor socket. *Barely* enough room there. On the other one, the sensor is right under the engine block, barring access from above. Ended up using a flex-head ratched to get to it from below...socket and flexed wrench look kind of like an inverted J. In hindsight, I wonder if both of them can be accessed that way. Fortunately neither required much torque to remove.

I was able to string together about three extensions and fish them up between the firewall and back of the engine and use a standard O2 sensor socket from a local parts store... this worked on both sides.

3 or 4 extensions to the ratchet and alot of sweat went into mine too. About 1 hour per side, but I believe second time (if it ever comes again) would be faster.:pface

Read all the posts on O2 sensors and just finished replacing them on my 90Q. Like Daedelus, I took the two angle aproach. Right side from the bottom w/a 7/8 crowfoot from Sears. Left side had to come from the top with a sensor socket. It really helped to have my wife turn the wrench from top while I was under the car keeping the socket from slipping. About 2 hours of work on that side, 1.75/hr to figure it out and .25/hr to do it. Thanks for all the previous posts on this topic. Don't know how long it would have taken without the help on this board.

Why Infiniti techs have $30-50,000 worth of tools in a $8,000 tool box. When you are paid by the job [minimal hours] every tool makes you money.

One more thing. When coming down from the top on the left, it really helps to wrap the flex joint that you are using with a piece of electrical tape. It allows the joint to be flexable but not floppy.

See the service manual. It calls (beginning of chapter on exhaust) for use of a 22mm "crows-foot" socket, with a split for the wires.

Get this standard tool from your favorite supplier, and with one extension, about a 10-12", you can R&R the sensors from the bottom. It is still not a snap, since they are likely to be tight (I know they are old) but it beats any approach from the top!

I did finally get them replaced. Use a 22mm socket and a lot of extensions.
