It's making a sound like you're holding a drill when you turn the key! Please help!

May want to take it to T3 or at least try your best or have some one else better describe the problem.

Welcome to NICO.

Have someone watch to make sure the belts/fan are spinning when you turn it over.

If they aren't then your bendix on the starter isn't engaging properly.

If they are then you need to download the FSM(Factory Service Manual) and start reading vigorously.

Good luck!

Have chain guides been updated?

That was what I was about to have done when the car stopped on me. Would that be a part of the issue?

Could be a starter relay if the motor does'nt turn over.

Could be the chain guides have snapped and ruined your motor already, Did you here any abnormal sounds from the engine before this?

No abnormal sounds, but the car started to lose power when I started to give it gas. Then it rode as normal. I cut the car off and waited for about 15 minutes tried to drive it once again and it started to lose power once again and then it just stopped.

No it won't turn over now. It sounded like a starter issue at first, but when my uncle sprayed started fluid it started making that drill sound when you turn the key. No other noises are being made!

I don't think its OK to use starting fluid on theses cars, But I really think your chain guides have let go, Unless you can provide a better description.

The fuel maybe flooded or something.Smash the gas in P like 80% or 100% down and turn the key hold it for 15seconds if it doesn't start up then it's not the fuel.I'm saying this because it happened to me. Sucked so much let me know if that was it thanks.

If it's the chain guide, is that going to cost me a new engine?

The fan is turning when I turn the key so it's not the bendix on the starter. Thank you!

Can you take a video with audio to show us please?

So it turns over but it does'nt "catch", possibly chain guides or sparks plugs even, is the car getting gas?

Just how much do you know about cars?

Have you read the owners manual and service manual that should have came with your car?

hey all not to thread jack but my car does the same only sometimes. I noticed it happens mostly in cold weather, but the car does not have to be cold for it to happen. If I turn the key to open position and leave it there for couple of seconds almost every time after that the car will not turn over and it makes that "drilling" sound that the OP is talking about. I have been told it's a starter issue but I don't know. Mine's a 98 Q with about 140K.

Does the drilling sound seem really akin a bunch of pist off bees?

Maybe the noise is coming more from the trunk area than the engine bay?

You should instead rejoice you have such a competent repair facility available to you!

Flat bed your car to the appropriate location where Byron is the tech, (Ty is the service writer).

Your ca needs knowledgeable help immediately, not someone guessing.

Start by calling here:

T-3 Automotive Ltd.5322 S. Cobb Dr.Atlanta, GA 30080(404) 794-7700

I apologize for a lot of ill informed information posted in this thread. But you need real help. Call T-3.

Got you! For the record, the car has always been fixed at T3! They just replaced a water pump on the vehicle a couple of days before I actually got the car from my friend. Thank you for your suggestion. Nah, let's get one thing straight. I didn't want to get a car from someone and then pay another arm and a leg. lol! That's what I meant by the word "feared". I personally have know of T3 since the 90's and have heard nothing, but the best from them! I just wanted transportation until they sent the money for my wife's vehicle. T3 is where it was headed in the end anyway. I had one mechanic tell me one thing and I needed to find out again from people that have owned their Q45's for more than a week before it stopped! Lol. This is the age of information right?

Yes, but text information has its limits when it comes to drill noises!

WAG is not a substitute for competent help.

Just had a problem with mine. My son was driving and it shut off. Took it to the shop and found out it was the module over the gas tank in the trunk. The module burnt out and the pigtale had shorted as well. When I get home I will look at the part number, but it's a computer module directly over the gas tank in the trunk. Part was $309.00.

The above poster is referring to the FPCU AKA Fuel Pump Control Unit.

If your fuel pump is bad it will take the FPCU with it.

Let me be a little more specific.

Your fuel pump failed quite a while ago and took the FPCU with it when it started pulling too much current. You will need a new fuel pump, O ring and fuel filter.
