Just wondering what you guys carry around as a jack.

I refuse to use the piece of garbage oem jack that seems to be made out of cheap aluminum and is downright dangerous. The thing would bend if you tried to lift a Mini much less the 4000lb Q. I threw it in the garbage years ago so I would never be tempted to use it again after a bending incident.

Going on long trips I take a small hydraulic floor jack however, for the most part, I travel with none. Not a good thing I know but, I do have AAA (Always Awaiting Assistance). So anyway, I think I need a decent scissor jack which can support the Q and still be stored in the jack-storage compartment.

hmm, right now it is the OEM. I might have to do a test jack -- sounds like something you do when you're a teenager.....

On another note, I finally got around to checking the air pressure in my spare tire the other day. I suppose with a flat spare it would have been pointless anyway..

So you're quite the jacking expert by now? Hehe.

Seriously, you don't want to use that thing...if you do, make sure it's not a windy day and the car is not on anything but a flat surface (no hill) and make no sudden jerks. Once it's even a little bent, the jack is useless dangers notwithstanding.

For an emergency jack, get the Sears "Companion" brand floor jack. $15 and supports two tons. I use it in the garage too.

You jerkoffs.

Jesda,

I took a look at the Sears companion... That's no emergency jack.

Way too big to fit in the compartment...I have a similar jack that I brought from Advance Auto a few years ago. I gotta find something that scissors I guess.

The factory jack is a POS. but much better than nothing.

Make sure it IS level and the wheels are chocked and the e-brake is engaged.

Mine has twisted, and once the car dropped, a few seconds after I had the second lug nut finger tight (whew, that was close!). I was on a small hill, and that was the first time it bent.

I agree, might seem cheap, but it's worked for me. I try to always make sure the car is on level/firm ground before jacking ... even if in an emergency situation. The car comes with a folding wheel chuck, and that should always be used.
