Hello,I am trying to determine the proper injector color band for a 1992 Q45.I want to have the replacement in hand before I start the job.I know there is the possibility of no color band.My question is ,can you see the color band when the injector is mounted? And will any color band work?Does this indicate size? Thanks in advance.

The colors are dots, not bands. After having problems getting an exact match when replacing my '94's injector, I now just order what Scottsdale recommends for my car. Worked fine replacing an injector in my '92 recently. I'd call the order and include the VIN to be sure.

You can see the "dot" on some injectors. You will find it on the underside of the connector. You need to remove the connector to see it.

Scottsdale told me not to worry about it. I didnt, and my Q runs great with three replaced injectors.

The fact that Infiniti measured each one's pattern (not just flow rate), that they kept them in separate bins, and in separate packages, and made sure each car got all the same color would suggest there is some proven value to having them matched. You may not feel the difference any more than you can feel the difference between 274 and 278 horsepower, but if the cost is the same, why the heck wouldn't you replace them with the same color?

In my case I did not exactly match my injectors for my '94 because after ordering and returning multiple injectors from multiple sources while my car was taken apart got tedious. I just used the third injector I ordered. Look at this thread to see the injector pictures:zerothread?id=108856

The fuel inlets are not in the same place! Maybe the spray pattern is the same, but it sure looks different. I think it is Infiniti reducing the number of different replacement parts they stock for cost savings. All the injectors work close enough to the same for a 100K mile car.

Like the 55Y00 oil filter suddenly being "good enough" to replace the 60U00... I'm still bitter about that one
