Ok guys, I was driving at a modest speed of 30 mph and hit some ice, spun out and did a 360. Well cam to a rest my slamming into a curb, therefor ruining my rear axel, the passengers side rear rire is bent out completely. Anyone have any idea as to how much a new rear axle will run me. I am hoping that it's not going to approach the $4000 range. if anyone has any ideas please let me know, even email me, [email protected]. You should see my baby, just lopsided and everything. I am so crushed. Palmerwnd, I feel your pain.:(

You guys need to move more south! Why did you ever leave CA (besides the crowds of crazy people, smog, earthquakes, etc)? I don't think a rear axle will approach $4000, but I fear you will find more damage if you look hard enough. Subframe bushings come to mind, as do differential, bushings, rear links and the struts. If you're using your insurance, get as much done as you can.

LOl it's funny you said that Dead. My rear diff has been making that humming noise for a year now. I just put it off. ht shocks or struts had not been done yet, thank gawd. I am really thinking about not doing anything at all. i am even considering finiding another Q. My parents have always told me that once a car is wrercked, it'll never drive the same again. Help!

When ever you have a rear or rear side accident always replace the rear subframe [$500+ $600 labor] as the smack will cause the 4 silicone filled mount isolators to eventually leak plus the mounting tabs [on the subframe] for camber and toe arm are weaker than the arms...they bend making alignment impossible.

Actually removing exhaust and driveshaft, then lowering rear subframe as a total unit with diff [leaving shocks and springs hanging from upper mount] makes mix and match individual parts replacement easier as everything is on the ground [ideally a transmission jack table].

I did the process on mine to replace a bent subframe and diff simultaneously took two of us 6 hours [about 10 man hours]........good time to do hubs and wheel bearings while everything is apart. Anytime you do a curb hit these must be changed!!!!!!!!!!! plus anything else that 's bent or broken.

The reason most wreck repairs don't drive like new is they didn't change everything required [that was damaged]......bad estimation and the insurance companies pushing a cheap fix.

The question is did the hit do any stress damage to the diffential as a new one is $2500 [junkyard $300-$500].

Obviously Q45a will require more labor and expense.

Body work and paint is another area plus wheels tires brakes [bent rotor /caliper/emergency brake parts.

We try to by the whole subframe [from a yard] with differential and shafts and brakes as a unit this gives us a parts bin for $750-$1000 but all suspension arms have rubber bushings so those bent should be replaced with factory new!

By the way that is todays project on a WORKING PRISTINE 1994 Q45a - new subframe because of a silicone isolator leak! ~~$1100 just to change the subframe, no other new parts [unless we find problems in the changeover].

I'm making each [tech and service writer] drive the car because they may never drive another WORKING Q45a AGAIN......last year we replaced all 9 accumulators from Texasoil rebuilt service [at 120k it is as good as new].......except for some rubber isolators which we will address soon.

The owner bought the 94 car new [$57,000] and has kept it that way.......he has 4 other cars and this is his take the clients out in car so it doesn't get driven much [13k a year or so].

I keep warning members about the loss of friction of Summer [and most all season] tires when the temperature drops near freezing............both my AVS and Firestone SZ are scarey each morning till they warm up [15 minutes at highway speed].

Snow and Ice and Performace tires don't mix, but like some I am Lazy and haven'y gotten around to it either..........gotta put the Michelin on!
