q45 ignition coil question?

Hey,

Me again. I want to try to replace the coil that runs #8 Cyl. Whats the best way to go about trying a new single coil, i thought there were 2 coils but now i understand that there are 8 (mini) coils. if u know what i mean? their listed as 2 coils one that runs 1-2 and the other runs 3-8. but isn't it really 8 minis?

What it means is that #1 and #2 are identical, but different from #s 3 thru 8. 3-8 are identical.

Absolutely. Shops would love to sell you all 8, but that's not required if only one's not working. Check in the BST section, folks are parting out Qs in there. I think any coil from '90-'93 will work for you.

Awsome! Thanks DAEDALUS! Now i just pray to god that it works for me and fixes my miss, if it happend to not be the problem would you be suspect to the packs on the side of the covers? They are Expensive so i hope not.

If it doesn't fix the miss then I would suspect a bad diagnosis on the injector NOT being the culprit. The ignitors just do not fail very often. It is possible to confirm the coil before replacing it, but that takes about as much labor as swapping the part. Depends on the cost of the part. If you can get one for less than $20 I'd say buy it and either swap it or have it ready to swap when you confirm the coil. The risk is that you never know for certain what you're getting with used parts.
