2002 Q45.

Hi guys..... my main drive belt slipped off last week and I had a heck of a time getting a new one on. However it slipped off again and I need a new idler pulley. I went to Napa and they gave me a 20mm wide one which shows its the correct size, (also advance auto had the same size 20mm width). Problem is that is too narrow for the belt...so it cannot be the right pulley size. Then Napa had a 32mm wide one and I grabbed that but that is for the other belt it seems.

I finally see one at Autozone that is 25.1mm wide...so I am hoping that is the correct one. Anybody have any info on this? When I took the old one off the bearings were worn out so that must have been making that squealing that i have heard for the past month. I thought it was the transmission but could that noise have been from that idler pulley? It was pretty wobbly.

So I will go buy for the third time the 25.1mm wide pulley at Autozone tomorrow and hope that it is the correct one. there is no part number on the one I removed from the car....and nothing in the service manual that shows dimensions for the pulleys.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Andy

:welcome: to NICO Andy!

I think I'd consider going OEM new on that... or just replacing the bearing in the pulley.

They may not have it on the website, but you can call them and order it. That's going to be the way to go with this,I wouldn't monkey around with the auto parts stores on this one.

I just replaced mine a couple months ago.I got my pulley from car quest an auto parts store they might also have in your area they carry hard to get stuff and also at car quest.com it costed like 25 or 30 bucks.since I'm kinda broke now a days I got the auto tensioner from a local junk yard but it took me 3 days to locate it .after making sure the engine was in OK shape they took it out and I paid like 35 bucks including a warranty u buy to make sure it works.since then I have been trouble free.the noice u here is coming from the auto tensioner and sounds like a tractor.if u take off the first part of the intake above the radiator and turn the car on u will see the unit shaking heavily.as far as for the size of the pulley I'll check mine when I get home but it should be no problem because most of the aftermarket parts mimic the OEM dealership parts.also check the manual here on under file em and section 12(em12) and at the end of the chapter it gives u the dimensions or specs.cross check the pulley and the size/width of your belt which I if my mind doesnt fail me the power steering belt.in would also recommend swapping the belt and going to like autozone or your local auto parts store which would be a lot cheaper (got mine for $24) but don't last as long as the dealership ones...another thing that makes that noise but not as loud on the driver side is when the fluid for the fan is low make sure its topped up and it also uses power steering fluid..any how's good luck on your search for the parts bro..and when calling around don't just give them the year make and model also give them the engine code or number

When you change one the rest are bound to follow. I just replaced them all at once. It wasn't too costly considering other repairs this vehicle may have. Rather than hunting down bearing sizes and pressing them in you are not going to save much by just replacing the bearing. The whole pulley $40-75 for the G50 model. F50 unsure.

Yep....finally found the right pulley at autozone....by the way its 25mm. All the otherd I found were 20mm which were too thin for the width of the belt. The bracket was still good. The car is noticably more quiet now. I thought ghe transmission was going before....so much noise.......now its silent! ;)
