so anyways, sup guys - i've been checkin out the forums here and there and finally decided to join up

i got the q about 7months ago and it seems fine - i don't know crap about cars so i'm in desperate need of help! first of all, i replaced a brake caliper but the "brake" light stays on now, i think i used the wrong one which doesn't have a sensor on it.. dunno :S anyways, my transmission sticks in 1st gear i think - im at a stop and ill accel. and the rpms will fly up, but if i give it more gas, ill speed up quite quickly but this is a problem, what the hell is up with the transmission? i hurd it was rebuilt or replaced about 2yrs ago so it should be half decent - is it wiring maybe? i havent changed the fluid in it yet - also, i'll be driving on the highway and ill accel. a lil more but itll be the rpms just going up slowly then it seems like the car shifts gears or just goes back to the normal rpms then accelerate more... "sometimes" but also ill crank the car and itll display "transmission malfunction" so ill cut the car off and recrank and its gone - can anyone please give their cents worth on this issue?

Mike!

The brake pad warning light can be disabled by splicing the 2 wires together for each sensor.

(Should be two sensors, one front and one rear on the passenger side)

Make sure to cover the exposed wires with electrical tape, and maybe cable tie them out of the way so they don't catch on anything

Try doing a search for the transmission. I'm sure there are loads of threads regarding the trans.

Have you changed your timing chain guides for the later model, metal backed ones?(If yours is a '90 to '93 model)First thing for you to check out, even before looking at the trans.

Not spending the $3,000 per year since 1995 [prorated] $36,000* can leave a Q in the condition you describe.

* can vary a bit - low annual vs high annual mileage. The first 100k cost ~~ 10 cents per mile and the next 15 cents.

When you bought the15 year old Q 7 month ago, what did the master technican's written report point out was needed to return it to as near new $3,000 or $8,000? The last 1991 prebuy we did needed $11,000 to rehabilitate [transmission, diff, driveshaft, subframe, chain guides, and ac plus plenum work and valve cover reseals.

Shocks, brakes, alternator, pullies, injectors can add another $5,000.

Aftermarket pads, weird shocks that don't quite fit, transmission hiccups, how is ac and engine?
