ok... so i've taken lots of advice from people on here so far. have no records of previous oil changes and such, so i'm bringing it out to Munn's shop(the schools garage place) where he will supervise the change for me. (i trust him since he's built atleast 20 show quality hotrods from the ground up). but i'm kinda new with the whole car thing(read: n00b). how much oil should i buy? i'm gonna try and get Mobil Synthetic 10W-40, unless anyone has better choices that I can get in my tiny town.

Also... I've read about problems with fuel injectors getting clogged or something of that sort. Should I buy any fuel injector cleaner? If so, what kind?

Oh yeah, a third question... How do I clean the Plenium? Is that something only a dealership car really do? How often should it be done(my Q is at 111,000) and how much does it cost?

I really appreciate all of the help you guys are given me. Much thanks.

1) You shouldnt need too much supervision for an oil change , pretty basic the oil filter is a real hassle to get off, but dont give in to temptation and go to it from top, that can mess up the MAf even if u are careful2)6 quarts (assuming u have a 90-96)3) They dont make it in 10w-40, but 0w-40, can be had usually only at Autozones Other great oil for your Q are these:http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....229.14)depends where you live 90-93 Q's injectors really dont like some states' gas formulations 94 and up are mostly immune even to pretty poor gas.5) Yes buy B&G <if> you can get it, if not buy Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner, feel free to use it often.6) Basically remove intake w/ MAF and spray seafoam or similiar cleaner into intake while car is runnign being careful not to stall the engine, more detailed "how-to's" you can find via search button also your "oil change help" will be able to show you.If you have really good help you might wanna take off the plenum (he will know what that is) and handclean it on inside.7)No8)Depending on your choice of gas +oil + environmentevery 30,000 to 60,000 miles is a good idea.9) The dealer will do it for $90 or so.

Fred -Thanks for the prompt reply:)

I'll go search for the oil tommorow. I had just misread what one post had said and put 10 instead of 0.

I will check on getting the plenium cleaned this summer(can't spare time or money right now) since I don't know if it was even cleaned ever before.

If your feeling up to the challenge, you could take off the TB (only a couple hoses to take off), and reach inside the plenum with a rag doused in carb cleaner, and that should do a pretty good job. Also, clean the TB while your at it.

I just did something yesterday that may help (I am not an experienced Q owner, so we may need someone else to chime in and correct me). Take off the intake hose and spray TB cleaner (i got some valvoline air intake/TB cleaner from advance) inside there (engine off), moving the throttle back and forth. TB cleaner will start running out of the TB, and just put a paper towel to catch all the gunk infested cleaner. If you want to go over and beyond, take off the lower vacuum hose, right under where the intake hose meets the TB, and with the engine running, spray some TB cleaner in there, being careful to keep the RPMs up as not to stall it.

So .... does this mean that my '94 shouldn't (not won't), but shouldn't have injector issues? That would be cool :fruit

Yes.Maybe Immune is a bit too strong a word, but it appears the 94 and up are much more resistant to injector problems, even if your state uses reformulated gas.

The injectors on my '94 failed at 85K. Luck of the draw.

No such thing in AZ - 91 is as high as we go.

Besides, it all comes out of the same truck.

Pretty much all gasoline in the same containment area is the same base product..........the various marketing schemes [adding a minute quanity of detergents] do little to affect the injectors].........so you are stuck with what came down the pipeline that week.

Obviously the Venezulan CITGO is a unique base product because they need special refineries to deal with the low quality oil feed stock.

The coil insulation in 90-96 injectors is the same, what the 4 hole spray pattern in the 94-96 gives you is a bettter resistance to pintle clogging/imbalances in spray pattern.

Impossible to protect against the ocassional refinery screw ups,,,,,,,,,you must just hope that the compounds get diluted in lots of other refineries product........the luck of the draw unless you analyse every tankful prior to driving.

"Buying crude on the spot market has additional cost implications for Citgo. Venezuela generates mostly heavy crude, which must be processed in refineries outfitted with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of special equipment. Citgo operates four such refineries, representing about 5% of U.S. refining capacity."............

"A barrel of Venezuelan heavy crude yields 65% of a barrel of gasoline and other finished products. A lighter Middle Eastern or African crude sold on the spot market yields more than 90% of a barrel of finished products, but Citgo’s refineries are not equipped to process lighter crude. The result: Short on cheaper Venezuelan crude, Citgo is buying more expensive light crude yet ends up with the same low productivity. Margins are getting squeezed."
