I used the post about fuel pump install to help me with the replacement of my Q45 fuel pump. Everything has gone well until I went to place the pump assembly back in the tank. For 3 hours I have turned, wiggled, removed, replace the assembly in the tank. I cannot get it to seat the last 2 inches. I looked into the perfectly spotless tank and saw the cup shaped partition the pickup filter should fit into. The new pump is exactly the same as the old one. You can't mess up attaching it to the assembly bracket. The entire assebly can only go in one way because of the fuel gauge float and pipes that attach to the top. And I marked the top plate. I thought it was just me but 2 other people have tried to seat the thing into the tank and no go. I don't know what if anything I'm missing here but if there are any suggestions out there, please, I'm at a loss as to what to try next.

Turn the sock the right way.Make sure hose isn't too long(new).DON'T strip screw holes when putting back together.

All good suggestions! Those little screws do not take much torque, they barely need tightened. What happens is the bolts will actually bottom out in the holes and then they'll snap or mess up the threads on the tank and you're in for a world of hurt.

I remember finagling that thing getting it back in, but I don't remember it being a big deal. Last time I replaced a fuel pump was probably about 5 years ago.

My girlfriend came home and figured it out. She held the float arm up while lowering the assembly into the tank. Settled right into position no problem. She works all day, looks great, and comes home and does auto repairs. Damm I'm a lucky guy.
