I just bought a 1994 Q45 w/125k miles on it 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it ran great up until yesterday when the check engine light came on. I pulled the codes and got a 51, so I checked all the fuel injectors and found #3 to be bad. After a valiant struggle with the plenum, I finally got to it, but had difficulty getting it out. Long story short, the injector came out but all of the plastic on top, including the connector was destroyed in the process. My question is: I've read about this white dot, blue dot, whatever. How do I tell what color dot this injector is, so I can replace it with the same one. Actually, another question is is it necessary to replace it with the same color dot? Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure you can get the ones with out the dot... There are white, blue, red, and NO DOT..... Im pretty sure that the one with NO DOT is cheaper and will go anywhere......

did you see my pleunm writeup on Q45.org???

Ok I'll try to get one with no dot. Where exactly on the injector would the dot be if there is one? Would it be on part of the destroyed connector on the top? Or indicated somewhere on the portion which goes into the fuel rail?

Ya I printed out your plenum writeup, it helped a lot thanks, and I did manage to get the plenum off without -too- much difficulty. The IAC hose held me up a bit, my biggest problem was trying to get the injector out of the fuel rail, which is why the top of it is destroyed, but thats ok since it was dead anyway. I even got the plenum off without cutting any hoses. I have to replace my brake booster hose because it was all cracked, but the rest are intact and in good shape.

Thats really good, that STUPID IAC hose (the one thats not on the IAC valve, the one thats hooked into the plenum), and it has that little piece of metal in it and it makes it hard to even cut!

Next time the plenum comes off I wont be touching that expensive Y shaped hose EVER again..... I love it when you get these HUGE hoses for $5 and then these other little ones are like $30... Nissan owns you on those stupid hoses...

Im pretty sure the dot is on the top.. you might look at the other injectors to be sure...

I havent messed with injecotrs, but IIRC you can put the ones with no dot on there.. Im not even sure the difference, Q45tech, anyone know what the different dots mean...??

I know they cost different because another member (who doesnt post often) was taken by the dealer, and they charged him like 3 different prices for injectors (when he had a whole set)......

I think the dots are there to indicate spray pattern grouping. See if Joe charges extra for color. I think I paid same as his list for my colored one. They don't cost any more to make; maybe the no-color ones aren't pattern tested?

Last time I removed my plenum, I unbolted the IAC and left the hose connected. When I replaced it, I just bolted the IAC back on as it was in the right spot. Replacing the IAC gasket sure beat sweating that hose back on!

I did the same on the IAC, saved a bunch of aggravation!! I keep a spare gasket on hand at all times just in case.

Get the same color dot. I tried mixing them before and it didn't work. It might be ok to use a different color if you get all eight.

If you use ALL fresh pliable new hoses and replace them every 70,000 miles or 6 years you never have the broken hose problem.

Don't confuse the color dots of the 90-93 with the different non dot 1994-96.

So OK;

I am planning a plenum job in a couple of weeks to replace EVERYTHING under the plenum including the 5 injectors that cannot be replaced without removing the plenum. I ordered the parts from Scottsdale and have received them. When I placed the order, they didn't ask me what color dots were on my injectors.

So now I may have new injectors that are mismatched with my old and that won't work properly????

I had planned on installing the 5 new injectors in the positions that are inaccessible with the plenum in placed and re-installing old injectors in the accessible positions.

I ordered the parts I would need to replace the fuel injector from scottsdale (the fuel injector itself, the IAC, EGR, and TB gaskets which were a little mangled after removal, and a new plenum -> brake booster hose, which I cut during removal). I put everything all back together, and it runs like a champ. As a note, for my specific model (1994 Q45t) joe at scottsdale said that the dot didn't matter. I'm not sure if it applies to any other models. Unfortunately, I seem to have mixed up a couple of EGR hoses while putting everything back together, because I'm getting a code 32 after a bit of driving, so I'll have to go back and look into that. Other than that, works great, injector replacement went smoothly, and it wasn't -terribly- expensive (it was around $160 for all of those parts)

thanks again
